"Music Notes by Tom Lounges"

"Kudos to the Highland based Rock group, Rusted Lilypad, on the solid performance they turned last Monday at Star Plaza Theatre when they were added at the last minute to open the show for southern rock legends, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Rusted Lilypad plays a bluesy rock style of music akin to that of groups like The Faces and The Black Crowes, complete with an abundance of sass and strutting" - The Times

"Its Time to Break Out"

"Charlie Blum (Star Plaza's Talent Buyer) warned us that we might hear people yelling for Skynryd and that their crowd was pretty tough," Mayer said. To the band's relief the Skynryd audience accepted their Black Crowes - inspired rock-n-roll sound, giving them a resounding round of applause. When the need to hire a regional support band for Skynyrd came up, Blum called Rusted Lilypad both because of the volume of tickets they sold and the solid performance they gave at last January's Region Rumble. - The Times

"Region Rumble 2007"

Tommy Mayer's vocals have just enough of a rasp to them, to recall those of early Rod Stewart and the late Humble Pie singer Steve Marriott. - Midwest Beat Magazine

"The Best Local Cds of 07"

Voted the "9th Best CD" of '07. Highlights: "Runaway Child," "My Life is Great" and "Fly On the Wall." - The Times

Bio

Rusta Lilypad is an original Rock & Roll band out of the Chicago land area whose story can be traced back to August of 2005. Two members of the band Scott Tucker (Guitar) and Tommy Mayer (Vocals), performed in Soul Pride, another Region band who achieved a moderate level of success. While playing all over the Chicago-land area at many places, including the Double Door in Chicago with The Steepwater Band and Star Plaza in Merrillville, they were awarded Beat Magazine's Best New Local Band Award in 2002. When their band dissolved in early 2005, Tommy Mayer & Scott Tucker searched for other musicians to start a new band. After hearing another up-and-coming Chicago band, that featured Alex Robertson on Guitar and Ricky Hanft on Bass, they were convinced that they would be the two key members in their search for a new band. After a few months of playing with different drummers and working out some original and cover songs, under the new name, Rusta Lilypad; they took 2nd place out of 17 other acts at the October 2005 Purdue University Battle of the Bands (their first show). After a couple of failed attempts with different drummers, in April of 2006, Tony Mancich stepped up and proved he was the drummer they had been waiting for. Since then, they have incorporated hours of original & cover songs into their shows and have been awarded 2007's Best New Local Band award by Beat Magazine. The set Rusta Lilypad played during the 2007 Region Rumble at Star Plaza earned them a spot as co-hosts on X-Rock 103.9 for one episode of the Night Rock program as well as other prizes, not to mention their songs are now in regular rotation on X-Rock 103.9. Their performance at the region rumble also intrigued and amazed the CEO of Star Plaza, Charlie Blum. Rusta Lilypad was asked back on Labor Day to open for rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd. That show jump-started the band to pursue more promising musical endeavors. Rusta Lilypad finished their Debut CD, "Formerly Known As Home" in October of 2007. As of late June 2008, the band has undergone a rebirth. Scott Tucker, former rhythm guitarist, has assumed the role of bass player. Rusted Lilypad is continuing work on their second album, and will begin to extensively gig the Chicago land area.
