Sound & Peace

Written By: Ruth E. Buettner

Soldiers far from home,
Everyday you hold onto to hope
In the faded colors of earth, you stand
Everyday you fight the unknown, your thirst, and the sand
As coarse sand fills your eyes, the hot sun scorches your skin
In a storm of dust, this is where your battle begins
Everyday you long to sit in the cool shade of green leaves -
and at night, you dream of peace

In the day, you fight the sand and dream of green leaves -
at night you dream of peace
You miss warm, fleece pajamas and bedtime stories,
waking to children bouncing and laughing in the morning
You miss falling asleep hearing steady drops of rain,
white snow, school concerts, fairs and parades
Everyday you dream of the shade of green leaves -
At night, you dream of peace
but most of all, you dream of peace

Keys to My Soul

Written By: Ruth E. Buettner

It took 10 years to pay my student loan
30 more years and I’ll own my home
I sold my soul for the keys to my car
$50 bucks left (for gas), it won’t get me far

You can’t get ahead in the world today
You get more in debt than you get paid
We’re living on loans and credit cards
The bank owns your soul with a finance charge

Daycare teachers make minimum wage
Athletes (Actors) make millions just to entertain
Some people are born with a silver spoon
Beautiful models marry rich tycoons
It’s all who you know and who you are
If you don’t know the right people, (you) won’t get too far

You can’t get ahead in the world today
You get more in debt than you get paid
We’re living on loans and credit cards
The bank owns your soul with a finance charge

Daycare teachers make minimum wage
Actors (Athletes) make millions just to entertain
Some people are born with a silver spoon
Beautiful models marry rich tycoons
It’s all who you know and who you are
If you don’t know the right people, (you) won’t get too far

You can’t get ahead in the world today
You get more in debt than you get paid
We’re living on loans and credit cards
The bank owns your soul with a finance charge

It took 10 years to pay my student loan
30 more years and I’ll own my home
If I ever get the keys back to my soul,
I’m going to drive away happy and sell everything I own
