"This is one of my favorite childhood tales, beloved by many. It’s also the first show using magic of this scale and caliber, and it’s a standout element. Audiences won’t be disappointed," said Phil Archey, who is directing his first production for ESP’s Theatre for Young Audiences, which produces shows aimed at children six to 15 years old.
While he won’t give away all the special effects, he does reveal that cast members will appear, disappear and levitate.

THE PERSON behind the magic is 17-year-old Robert Bouwmeester, a senior at South Lakes High School. Bouwmeester, who formed his own
production company, R&W Illusions, three years ago with Chantilly High School student, Wesley Coleman, 15, said magic has always fascinated him.

"What I am trying to do is something like David Copperfield’s Intimate Evening of Grand Illusion, by trying to put in Las Vegas-quality illusions into a small space," said Bouwmeester. "It’s been an enthralling challenge, but I’ve loved doing it."

Bouwmeester, who draws inspiration from eccentric magicians Penn & Teller ("They try to kill and maim each other in fun and magical ways.") is a member of International Brotherhood of Magicians, the
Society of American Fight Directors and served as the magic consultant for the Royal Ballet of Jordan.

The young magician said he hopes the audience will be particularly impressed with the unusual entrance of Morgan le Fay, who first
appears on stage through a haze of shadows.

"I think the best part is the magic battle between Merlin and Morgan at the end. It’s better than any swordfight," he said..

Archey said the cast has been rehearsing for about eight weeks. "I am blessed with a really talented cast. Some are students, some are young professionals, but I’ve learned that if you cast the right people,
everything falls into place."
