Ryan Herrick

Ryan Herrick is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Central Massachusetts. Starting out primarily a guitar player, he soon threw percussive instruments into the mix after frequenting local drum and dance circles.

Ryan sees music and live performance as an ever-evolving,
spiritual space of connection. "There is something deep and transcendent within the art form of music," he says. "It's meditative and transportational. I think that those highly personal moments you get while creating it are what make it worth doing."

His experiences on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of South Dakota served as the benchmark for the kindling of his spiritual and musical inspiration. "Up until this point in my life, I hadn't felt so alive... so awake, so connected. Just to be invited to the sacred ceremony was one thing. But to be a recipient of such a significant intracultural gift and to be accompanied by the presence, power, and participation of ancient Lakota ceremony was humbling; utterly life changing." Several of his original songs are inspired by his experiences on the rez.

Now Chicago-based, Ryan can be found wielding an acoustic guitar wired
for electric capabilities, delivering a unique sonic experience
woven together with his voice and stompbox; sailing from the
shores of earthy, acoustic folk and textured instrumentals to the
outskirts of gritty, edgy blues.
