Ryan Reed is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and overall one-man band from Knoxville, TN. His songs bounce from synth-pop to prog-rock and many places between.
Though he spends his working hours writing about other people's music, Ryan funnels a huge amount of his free time into two musical projects: his solo vehicle and the art-pop duo Portals to Nowhere (featuring singer Jamie Wolfe).
Recording music has been an escape for Ryan dating back to his teenage years, when he'd set up with a cheap effects pedal, tiny amp, and pawn shop guitars to record embarrassingly lo-fi tunes. He's sharpened his skills a fair amount in the two decades since: first on the charmingly ragged 2014 LP 'The Goon,' then on a pair of 2020 releases, Portals to Nowhere's 'The Door Is Lava' and his own 'Forgiver Forgotten.'
'Galaxy in a Mirror' marks a new step in Ryan's evolution: an all-instrumental set that feels like a direct blend of his last two LPs, melding spacey soft synths, textured beats, and effects-heavy guitars.
