Bio
The musical world Ryan Jones finds himself in today really began five years ago. At that time Ryan was wrapping up a college music career in Boston that consisted of playing any bar that would book him. Far from his Midwestern upbringing in the suburbs outside of Detroit, MI, Jones started a career in the music business at BMG Distribution as well as managing local acts. By all accounts things were going well on the business end of music but his own career was never too far out of site.
On Memorial Day of 2000 however Ryan was thrown a devastating curve ball that would change his world and music forever. His sister, who was his best friend, was killed in a car accident at the tender age of 21. That’s when he went numb to the business end of Music and began the grieving process by penning his first solo effort Songs From The Shadow Of The Sun
In this collection of music, written over a three year span following his sister’s death. Ryan played all the instruments, sang all the vocals, recorded, produced and even created the artwork. The songs became a way through the grief and loss.
With a wide vocal range and musical influences spanning from Bob Dylan to Guns N Roses and Bruce Springsteen to Ben Folds no two songs sound alike. Harkening back to a time when songwriting was the thing, these songs are packed with emotion and it’s evident that Jones wears his heart on his sleeve in life and lyrically. From the melancholy vocals on Imperfectly to the raw and gritty Guessed I Guessed this artist will leave you wondering if it is the same person performing these songs.
Ryan is back to playing live 5 years later with shows at Harper’s Ferry, The Paradise Lounge and countless bars in between in which he puts the passion the record represents into every show…and into every song.
