"Of Models and Melody"

Ryan Koning is many things—Brooks Brothers favorite, Iraq War veteran, tennis champion—but his real passion is music. A guitar player since his high school years, Koning studied music recording at college in Florida and worked closely with a music coach before modeling brought him to New York in 2009. A slew of campaigns, covers, and editorials quickly came his way, but he has shifted focus recently back to his original calling, making time to perform regularly at a number of venues downtown and record a handful of songs in the studio in advance of recording a full album later this year. Koning, also a talented songwriter and composer, is a passionate musician whose songs have a lightness and clarity that are becoming increasingly rare. He spoke with Jonathan Shia about his music career and the lead up to the launch of his second self-produced single “Lover’s Game” this Wednesday. - Models.com

Bio

Singer-songwriter, former U.S. Army Sergeant, Iraqi War Veteran, fashion model, and Juilliard student Ryan Koning can sure get down to business. For the last year he's been writing and refining his craft in New York City and playing monthly gigs at Greenwich Village hotspot "The Bitter End." This has brought him to the forefront of today’s up-and coming underground singer-songwriters. With upbeat guitar rhythms reminiscent of John Mayer or Dave Matthews and a more introspective side taken from his love of Paul Simon and James Taylor he sings easily catchy songs and has developed a unique fingerprint as a songwriter, which is quickly becoming a must-hear. Recently his first recorded single "the world again brand new" spent 4 months at no. 1 on the songcirclemusic.com fire chart, and his second single "Lover's Game" hit itunes on Feb. 22
