Ryan Sisters

The Ryan Sisters have been singing together for several years and have been impressing people everywhere they sing with their heartfelt performances. After Lauretta contracted a life threatening illness called Guillain-Barré Syndrome in June, 1995 which paralyzed her entire body, they decided to pursue their dream as they realized that life is too short to let your dreams pass you by. Together with Lauretta’s positive attitude, visualization techniques, determination, faith and family support she was the fastest recovering GBS patient to leave the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre, however her faith and positive attitude were put to the test when the doctors called in her family as they felt that she was near death.

With nothing working in her body except her mind, she contributes her fast recovery to her faith and constant visualizations of being completely healed and of walking across the stage with a microphone in her hand. She listened to music 24 hours a day while recovering, which helped to inspire her and once she was able, she would sing as much as she could which helped to strengthen her diaphragm, thereby helping her breathing, which significantly sped up her healing. She would practice singing in her room at the rehabilitation centre with her door closed, and when she finished singing her songs, the doctors and nurses would clap for her and encourage her to follow her dream. The doctors told her that music saved her life, helping to prevent her from being put on a ventilator! She had to relearn how to use all of her motor skills as well as walk again and with the help of extensive therapies she was walking by October.

Before this Maria and Lauretta were dabbling in the music industry as solo artists, Maria won the Star Search Competition in Moncton, as well as many other singing competitions and Lauretta was also singing in numerous plays, talent shows and was a soprano in the world renowned “Hillsborough Choir”. Lauretta’s illness gave them the inspiration they needed to join together and start their singing career as a duo and begin their musical journey.

The Ryan Sisters were originally a country duo, and were the opening act for Virgin Recording Artists, LEAHY, who were promoting their # 1 album. They also performed to a full house during the 1997 ECMA 75 Hour Non-Stop Jam captivating the audience with their powerful voices and energy! They were promoted in Country Music News magazine as one of Canada’s hot new acts to watch for and were also featured on the front page of the Life & Times section of the Moncton Times-Transcript and the front page of Riverview’s County Chronicle. This dynamic duo were honoured to showcase their talent during 1997 Canadian Country Music Week in Hamilton, Ontario and to be also chosen to showcase at the 1998 ECMA’s 10th Anniversary in Halifax, and they were thrilled to be the opening act for ECMA Country Artist of the Year, JULIAN AUSTIN.

Maria & Lauretta took a break from the music industry for a few years, as Lauretta felt a strong desire to be able to heal others and give back to the community. She became a Registered Massage Therapist which she loves and excels at. Maria worked in the fast paced corporate world realizing that you really have to “do what you love and love what you do” to be fulfilled and thus continued writing music in her spare time.

In 2008, during the movie “The Secret”, the story of the “Miracle Man” brought Lauretta to tears as she was known as the “Miracle Child” and she had flashbacks of her illness and recovery. The similarities of their paralysis were overwhelming - how they both used the power of the mind to visualize their complete recovery in such a short amount of time. After watching this they instantly became inspired and realized that their love of music never left their souls and at that point, decided to pursue music once again, but this time their vision was to inspire the world with their story and the important message to follow your heart, anything is possible if you believe, and that we all have unlimited power within us to create the life of our dreams!

The inspiring words of their song, “There’s A Secret” started to flow out of Lauretta and the song began its journey. Continuing on their journey of the Law of Attraction they flew to Vancouver and became Certified Facilitators of The Law of Attraction. They were so inspired that they wrote a song called “Law of Attraction” during their training. The Ryan Sisters latest original song “Live In Inspiration” was inspired by the teachings of Dr. Wayne Dyer and co-written by the very talented singer/songwriter/producer/musical director, Doris Mason, of “DRUM!”. The sisters love sharing their inspiring songs which are empowering and have the powerful message that we are all the masters of our own destiny and we all have unlimited power to create the life we’ve always dreamed of.
