Bio

The Sababa Fusion Band is a band born out of the multi-cultural and Jewish diversity that presented itself at the One Heart Concert in Johannesburg in September 2006.
The One Heart Concert changed the face of Jewish music in Johannesburg forever. The bands brought together represented the cutting edge of Jewish alternative thought and direction and resulted in a number of afro-judo musical collaborations.
The Sababa Fusion Band is made up of members of each of the bands represented at that concert, including Adama Kadmon, Kulanu and Chazak. In addition, new lead singer Choni Goldman has finished touring as backup singer to Matisyahu to join the band.
Choni has a stage presence that immediately brings the audience to its feet. His connection with the audience is becoming legendary. Choni’s musical history is extremely varied,
Johnny Sklar, the band’s guitarist and one of its backup singers was one of the founding members of Adama Kadmon and co-wrote all of the songs for the acclaimed album Majuda. Johnny’s compositional skills and ridiculous African, jazz and blues tendencies have become the heart of the band’s sound. Majuda’s unique African groove-based songs have gone on to become standard radio play on a number of Jewish radio stations around the world and on local SA radion stations. As an independent artist, the album has sold a respected amount in both Israel and the US. It is currently the most purchased album on the Popcuts website (www.popcuts.com), which is a website that promotes independent artists to other independent artists. It’s nice for the compositions to be appreciated by our musical peers.
Keyboard and backup singer Yochi Ress is the alter-ego to the band and brings a genius perspective to both SFB’s live and recorded composition. Peter Sklair and groove-master drummer Dan Palay are both exciting and well known session and live musicians within the SA Jewish world round out the group and provide the foundation for the unique sound.
The band has been working on its first album, while playing small venues and events.
