"Courtesy Class"

Dublin has giving birth to another high class entertaining band and this four piece who call themselves Saccade have every little piece of hard working musicianship in their blood, when you listen to these guys you will here some aromatic anthem melodies along with some deep intelligent lyrics, Steve Walker is the front man in the group bagging some real hot vocals and adding some real top class talent to this band along with some pre 90’s grunge riffs and heart warming lyrics grinding with some stand up old school indie. Saccade have what it takes.

Saccade

'Courtesy Class'

By Angela Macari O'Looney

There's a delightfully appealing freshness about Saccade's sound. A quartet who hail from Dublin's North side, they are an Indie/Rock/Pop act whose music has its own special stamp on it. They have a cheerful song writing style which doesn't lean too much on their influences which includes an enormous cross section of bands with a wide contrast of genres.

Courtesy Class follows a very successful debut E.P. in 2007, 'Choose your own Adventure'. 2008 has seen them complete a cross country promotional tour, featuring on the TG4 show 'Deis Roc', where they received extremely high praise from the renowned Jim Lockhart (Horselips) who deemed them 'the best band in the competition'!

This choppy number starts off with rhythmic chords and a delectably sweet verse sung by Steve Walker. It then builds up with a lovely chorus which comes to a sustained 'NOW'!
A sudden but magical key change is an unexpected twist and the backing vocals sung by Phil Deadly on bass, complete the scene.

The lyrics are fun and romantic, with a slightly blue content in them. Lovely bashing chords at the end of the chorus are followed by a sexy lead solo. The verse is sung again in pretty much the same format as before and there's a seductive bit where Steve does a little bit of trickery using the lyrics 'suck it in and t-t-t-t-taste it'. The chorus is repeated and Steve lets out a little high pitched 'Yeah'before the gorgeous key change and harmony in this memorable part of the song, adds even more sweetness.

A slow middle eight to change the pace a little is done, with a nice riff included and then you're treated to a distortion filled lead bit before the final chorus. This energetic and punchy number is a good sample of the young and vibrant package that seems to be what this band offers.

Stupefy

This song is fast with an energy charged verse. Things build up with Steve's clear and crisp vocals in the first verse which has a punk quality about it. The melody is exciting along with lyrics which are fearless and just superb!

Harmony is very effective as are drums. Phil's baselines are audible and give it socks. There's a rhythmic riff done by two guitars in sync and is harmonised enriching the whole number. Jay Fowler does some nifty riffs and a magic solo, Steve playing fantastic rhythm throughout.
This is by far the livelier of these two songs, with a stop in the middle followed by a deliciously creepy bass bit before it goes back to the chorus, finishing with a big sharp stop!
Saccade bring to mind another band I have a soft spot for on the Dublin gig circuit ? The Kinetics. However I feel that they are only at the beginning of what looks to become one exciting adventure and I look forward to seeing them perform these great numbers along with the rest of their repertoire soon!

Dublin northsiders Saccade releaesd their debut album Force of Habit in October to terrific reviews from all sections of the media. The first album from the Dublin 4-piece is an explosion of power-infused rock riffs coupled with catchy pop sensibility. With smart lyrics and flawless arrangements, Saccade have already received a great deal of praise and support from the Irish media for their hook-laden infectious choruses that will have even the least likely toe-tapper dancing along. Their debut single Wastin’ My Time is a firm favourite of DJ Dermot Whelan, and has been used on TV3 to promote their motoring show Xcellerate, while being finalists in the Jack Daniels competiton last year, is testament to their great live performance.
