SACCHARINE BIO

Under the leadership of singer/songwriter/guitarist, Justin Phillips, Saccharine makes exquisitely structured Pop music. Formed in the suburbs of Seattle, WA in March of 2006, Saccharine became the new vehicle for Justin’s “hook-heavy” Pop songs. Quickly enlisting the talents and super melodic playing of long-time friend, Jason Milfs on fretless bass; there was no denying the combination immediately clicked. Collective influences ranged from The Beatles & Badfinger, to The Cars, Weezer, & Elliott Smith. With lucid songs about love, loss, hate, hope, and plain ol’ fun, Phillips touches upon the emotions with lethal precision—even the darker numbers are wrapped in irresistibly addicting melodies, with powerful vocals that are drenched in harmonies.

In May of 2006, Saccharine recorded their first self-produced demo; flippantly titled, “This Here Demo. . .” The four song recording features ex-Posies drummer, Mike Musburger. Immediately following the making of this disc, Saccharine set-out on a very long and frustratingly exhaustive search for a drummer. After 10 excruciatingly tedious months of constant auditioning, and head-pounding, Saccharine’s perseverance paid off with Connecticut transplant, Kris Bulakowski (formerly of indie-pop group, The Inclined Plane) who literally knocked the socks off ALL of the competition, and fit snugly into the drummer position and catchy songs almost overnight. To round things out, Saccharine also called upon the help of another long-time friend, Terry Smithson (of indie-pop band, Darelin) to back-up on guitar and vocals.

With a fun and super energetic live show, and positive support and reviews from fans, professionals, and other attentive listeners, Saccharine is definitely one of the Northwest bands to be on the lookout for in the near future!
