sad girl

BandAlternativeRock

Somewhere between the doors and the bright blue sky, between beefheart and chicken little, between a random gesture and a plot to knock over fort knox lives the folk music of a rag tag decade gone sublime...

Biography

Twenty Years, the debut album from Sad Girl is the product of nearly a decade and a half collaboration between Tommy and Karen Swerdlow. The Swerdlow’s have a studio in North Hollywood where Karen developed her sound and producing skills acquiring lots of vintage gear and a
style all her own as Tommy wrote screenplays and created television shows to pay the bills.
Among his screenwriting credits are Cool Runnings and Snow Dogs both for Walt
Disney. Twenty Years may sound like a funky strain of rock and roll and heightened language, but at it’s core it is the folk music of a fifteen year
creative and emotional bond.......

Lyrics

really tired

Written By: tommy swerdlow

Part I

No reprieve
No regret
He redeems
You believe

I feel well
I feel calm
I feel right
I feel wrong

(chorus)
I feel well
I feel well
I feel well

I feel well
I feel well
I feel calm

I feel wrong
I feel right
And it happens at night

I feel wrong
I feel right
And it happens at night
(repeat)

Migrane dream
No good deed
Fever street
What you need

I feel well
I feel calm
I feel right
I feel wrong

(chorus)
I feel well
I feel well
I feel well

I feel well
I feel well
I feel calm

I feel wrong
I feel right
And I feel it at night

(repeat)

I feel well

Part II

I’m so tired

I’m really tired

I’m so tired

(repeat)

broken stuff

Written By: tommy swerdlow

she walks in looks around
can’t believe her eyes
is that a mirror that she sees
she’s wearin’ a disguise

it’s windy and the leaves play tag
everything’s the same
that L.A. sun is such a drag
we could use some rain

(chorus)
why you gotta act so tough
when you gonna be enough
I got lots of broken stuff
maybe you can fix
you can’t really run away
there ain’t nowhere for you to stay
you better pull your getaway
from your bag of tricks

life is like a diamond mine
gems covered in dirt
we’re searchin’ hard but we can’t find a pain that doesn’t hurt

I see you lyin’ on the bed
Strange thoughts run through my mind
Like how’d you dress if you were dead
And would you still be unkind

(chorus)
why you gotta act so tough
when you gonna be enough
I got lots of broken stuff
maybe you can fix
baby you can’t run away
there ain’t nowhere for you to stay
you better pull that getaway
from your bag of tricks

(bridge)
let’s go down the rabbit hole
it’s such a sweet surprise
she makes you crawl across the coals
she’s perfect and she lies

You say voodoo’s in your blood
Then cleanse me of my sins
You drag my good name through the mud
then stick my doll with pins

You slash your wrists and list demands
you lose your self control
You drag the peace pipe from my hands
You try to smoke my soul

(chorus)
why you gotta act so tough
when you gonna be enough
I got lots of broken stuff
maybe you can fix

you can’t really run away
there ain’t nowhere for you to stay
you better pull your getaway
from your bag of tricks

mr.everyone

Written By: tommy swerdlow

A box of snap shots
Everyone says good bye
He’s just a witness
The crime is the sky

(chorus)
he burns his flag
he’s mr. everyone
sneaks into the back of the room
he’s such a drag
he’s mr. Everyone
listen to the voice of doom

judgement or mercy
everyone take your pick
off to the drug store
nobody’s sick

mister and misses
everything's okay
never have spoken
not much to say

(chorus)
he burns his flag
he’s mr. Everyone
sneaks into the back of the room
he’s such a drag
he’s mr. Everyone
listen to the voice of doom

(bridge)
don’t go so fast
nothing is meant to last
your water and clothes
and some thoughts I suppose

(chorus)
he burns his flag
he’s mr. Everyone
sneaks into the back of the room
he’s such a drag
he’s mr. Everyone
listen to the voice of doom

moon shines

Written By: karen swerdlow

i drop a letter in the mail
watch the raindrops turn to hail
read a book about a whale

i put sugar in my tea
think of how it used to be
think of what you said to me

the world it just spins
the moon it just shines
the wise man just grins
not a thing on his mind
and you say your prayers
and you tow the line
and you dare to say
things are just fine

time comes and sits down in a chair
doesn't ask me if i care
makes believe that i'm not there

hope comes and sits down next to time
pours himself a glass of wine
tells me all this could be mine

the world it just spins
the moon it just shines
the wise man just grins
not a thing on his mind
and you say your prayers
and you tow the line
and you dare to say
things are just fine

i'm driving
maybe you could use a ride
we're flying
it's so great to be alive

the world it just spins
the moon it just shines
the wise man just grins
not a thing on his mind
and you say your prayers
and you tow the line
and you dare to say
things are just fine

i put sugar in my tea
think of how it used to be
think of what you said to me

mars

Written By: tommy swerdlow

Mars is it really red
With a river bed
Was it something that I said

Are you what you say
Or just a passion play
Put on to make me stay

I, I know where I been
And that its a sin
to touch another's skin

And you, you’re always on display
You got your special way
and it Aint a lot to say

Everywhere you go
i think you really outta know
i'm doin fine
Everywhere you go
i think you really outta know
i'm right behind

Hope, what a funny word
even worse than what you heard
Full of dreams but so absurd

Love, that one's even worse
Half a blessing half a curse
Why'd I go and say it first

Time, its movin awful slow
I think I better go
you're not a man I ought to know

But when it comes to you
Aint much I wouldn't do
Take the sky and steal it's blue

Everywhere you go
i think you really outta know
i'm doin fine
Everywhere you go
i think you really outta know
i'm right behind

pain, does it really hurt
god i hate to watch you flirt
see my heart bleed thru my shirt

sex, something that we crave
let me make you misbehave
you can be my little slave

hey, are you what you say
or just a passion play
put on to make me stay

mars, is it really red
with a river bed
was it something that i said

Everywhere you go
i think you really outta know
i'm doin fine
Everywhere you go
i think you really outta know
i'm right behind
