"Sadiiya Rock perfroms on BET's 106 & Park"

New Single From Breakout Artist Sadiiya Rock To Be Launched On BET's 106
& Park
Performance of "Lovalicious" on June 17th's "Wild-Out Wednesday" segment
(PRWEB) June 16, 2009 -- Weekly television has become a major avenue for musical artists to break out of the
pack. Along with American Idol and America's Got Talent, Black Entertainment Television's (BET) influential
show 106 & Park provides a springboard for the next "it" artist and measuring the pulse of the streets. The latest
singer to use the weekly television platform to launch a promising new career is singer Sadiiya Rock.
106 & Park is BET's most popular show and #1 music video show among urban households. Wild-Out
Wednesday" (WOW), one of the most popular themes, provides the ideal outlet for an emerging urban artist.
WOW will feature Rock's performance of her sexy high-energy new single, "Lovalicious," on Wednesday, June
17th at 6PM Eastern Time. "Lovalicious" is sure to please Sadiiya's core demographic, delight mix show DJ's and
bang at the clubs.
In the last year, Rock has started making her mark as a new, organic presence in urban/pop music. She
performed on New York's Hot 97's Blaze the Stage in December 2008 and has had gigs at prominent New York
spots like The Village Underground and Joe's Pub. Seasoned pros in the music business have been attracted by
her talent. Sadiiya is currently gearing up for a summer/fall 2009 promotional tour.
Sadiiya is forging her own path by releasing two debut singles simultaneously - the urban "Lovalicious", and a
pop single, "Flatline." "Lovalicious," co-written by Rock, was produced by New Orleans' Blair Lavigne and
co-produced by Charlie (C.J.) Jones. "Flatline," also co-written by Rock, was produced by noted German
producer Marcus Brosch. Brosch's credits range from Popstar (the German version of American Idol) artists
Monrose, to remixes for Lionel Ritchie, Brandy, Enrique Inglesias and Phil Collins. Sadiiya's forthcoming debut
album features a reinterpretation of Phil Collin's "In the Air Tonight," further evidence of how Rock's artistic
vision pushes beyond the traditional confines of R&B.
"Lovalicious" and "Flatline" can be previewed at www.sadiiyarock.com and are available on digital outlets,
including amazon.com and iTunes.
The 22-year old Brooklynite's rejection to be pigeonholed into a particular genre stems from her emphasis on
good songwriting. As Sadiiya puts it, "For me it's about the song… the melody. Yes, I love to dance, but I also
love to tell stories. Good songs are critical to the direction I want to go. I am always aware of the balance
between being true to my urban fan base yet reaching for a broader scope creatively."
For the past two years, Urban Melodic Entertainment, a production company started by Emmy Award-winning
mixer Charlie (C.J.) Jones, has nurtured Rock's development. Jones says, "Sadiiya has paid her dues and her time
has come. In addition to the obvious - her stunning voice - her music has evolved into an urban-fused soundscape
with international appeal."

her voice at an early age with vocal coaching from "Uncle Ray" (Raymond Rock), a member of the 1970/80's
band, The Crown Heights Affair. Talent runs in the Rock family, from her cousin's, comedian/actor Chris Rock to
comedian Tony Rock. Sadiiya is applying the family work ethic to her own career.
Sadiiya has trained with Grammy Award-winning veteran vocal coach Gwen Conley and teamed with
choreographer Violet Galagarza (KR3T's, Broadway Dance). She attended the famed Tada, a theatrical youth
ensemble in New York, as well as acting workshops with the late Maria Greco. Her innate sense of fashion design
landed her an internship with BET's Wardrobe Department, where she met C.J. Jones. While at BET, Sadiiya had
a courtside view to artists on the rise; from Alicia Keys and Keyshia Cole to Mario and Lloyd. And she was
taking notes.
Sadiiya's unique soundscape reflects her wide-ranging influences, from Aretha Franklin to Gwen Stefani; from
Earth, Wind & Fire to Guns N' Roses. From Burt Bacharach to Ne-yo. Her songwriting is central to her message:
"At a time when there is so much fear in the world, I want people to feel they can be fearless through my music."

"Billboard Emmy Press Release"

2008 Emmy Award-Winning Mixer Creates New Business Model for Breaking
New Artists
Charlie "C.J." Jones Leads CBS' Guiding Light Audio Team to 2008 Emmy Win.
New York, NY (Billboard Publicity Wire) June 24, 2008 -- BET's 106 & Park, Showtime at the Apollo, Jamie
Foxx's Laffapalooza, MTV's TRL, CBS's The Guiding Light, The Chris Rock Show. These are just a few of the
shows mixed by veteran sound engineer Charlie Jones.
Coming off his 2008 Emmy win this month for Direct Live Sound Mixing of TV's legendary Daytime Drama
"Guiding Light", Jones remains in demand. When an Executive in Charge of Production needs an audio mixer,
Jones--or "C.J." as his friends and colleagues know him--is the go-to guy. And now he has broken new ground,
launching his own musical artist development company, Urban Melodic Entertainment (UME).
UME (www.myspace.com/urbanmelodic) is a natural progression for C.J., a Howard University graduate and
Chicago native who majored in music composition and minored in music business. The New York-based
company is a natural extension of C.J.'s passion for music videos, which he developed while working as a
freelance mixer for BET, MTV and VH1. Over the past three years, C.J. has been developing artists under his
Urban Melodic Productions banner.
The primary focus of UME is artist development and management. "Most major labels are looking for artists in
the pop/urban arena to walk in with completed albums," C.J. says. "The success of a show like American Idol has
really changed the playing field. With the record industry undergoing a transformation unlike any we've ever
seen, it is now more difficult than ever to break a new artist. The days are gone where an A&R executive signs a
new artist with no track record, no original material and then develops that artist until they're ready. That process
now takes a two-year commitment hard work, money and resources, and major labels don't have the time for that
anymore."
That's where Urban Melodic comes in, finding, nurturing and developing new and exciting artists whose work
has an urban appeal. "They can be in any genre," C.J. continues, "from pop to R&B to alternative to rap to jazz.
We put them with the right producers and songwriters and work hard to create the right material." C.J.'s creative
team includes such emerging producers as Blair Lavigne of New Orleans, Dave "DS" Stanley of Money Earnin'
Mount Vernon, Jesse Rudoy (aka Blanche Dubois) and The Bronx/Brooklyn producer Michael Bell.
Established producers and songwriters have lent a hand to UME, as well, including Shea Taylor (Ne-Yo), Big
Russ (Alt Radio remixer), Lawrence "Woo" Allen (Destiny Child remixes) New York's Scheme, Jayson Dyer
(Salaam Remy, Nas, I-20). and songwriter Jenny Bruce (www.myspace.com/jennybruce) whose songs have been
heard on Dawson's Creek and All My Children.
UME's innovative, one-stop-shopping approach to developing new talent encompasses the entire range of
components necessary to make a musical artist a star. "I consider myself the finisher," says C.J. "I'll look at the
entire project and figure out what's missing and come up with a track. I usually record and mix all the vocals and
handle the mastering. Next we do all the ancillary things--bring in a vocal coach, a personal trainer, and work

with a team of stylists to make sure the music and the visual image come together. Sometimes the artist comes to
the table with a strong identity and sometimes it has to be built from scratch. Each situation is different."
Once the music is ready--or "on point," as C.J. says--UME starts to create industry buzz, either going directly to
radio with a single, or generating a following on the street with mix tapes. UME also relies on Internet promotion,
taking advantage of the massive exposure of such websites as MySpace, YouTube and iTunes.
Like many successful companies, UME began its skyrocket after a potentially devastating setback. In November
2005, C.J., along with colleague Jacqueline Manning, presented a showcase for then Columbia Records President
Steve Greenberg. Manning had worked with Greenberg during his days at S-Curve Records, helping to break
recording artist Josh Stone. But by February 2006, it was clear that a deal would not materialize. Undeterred, C.J.
decided to launch Urban Melodic Entertainment.
"After the showcase," C.J. recalls, "everyone in the room kept commenting that the artists, material and caliber of
talent were as good as any signed to a major label. I knew we could be competitive, and that it was time to take
matters into my own hands." C.J. plans to leave his post at CBS in the fall of 2008, and devote all of his time to
UME.
The first releases from UME are "Flatline," by 22-year-old R&B/Urban artist Sadiiya Rock, from Brooklyn, NY (

Sadiiya Rock
(Noun) Sah-d-yah: whimsical, talented and young spirited; one who loves expressing themselves through song.

The journey of life has been a coming of age process for this 22-year-old Brooklynite. She began cultivating her voice at a very early age with vocal coaching from Uncle Ray (Raymond Rock), a member of the 1970/80's Band Crown Heights Affair. Talent runs in the Rock family, from her cousins comedian/actor Chris Rock to comedian Tony Rock. Sadiiya Rock is applying the same focused driven work ethic to her own career.

Sadiiya attended the famed Tada, a theatrical youth ensemble in New York while simultaneously attending acting workshops with Casting Director, the Late Maria Greco. Her innate sense of fashion design landed her an internship with BETs (Black Entertainment Television) Wardrobe Department in New York. There she met veteran sound designer/mixer Charlie (C.J.) Jones, CEO of the newly developed Urban Melodic Entertainment (UME). At CBS, C.J. oversees audio for BET's 106 & Park, Inside Edition and Guiding Light. His mixing credits also include Showtime at the Apollo, Laffapolooza with Jamie Foxx, Spectacle with Elvis Costello and The Chris Rock Show. He recently won the 2008 Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Mixing for daytime drama Guiding Light.

Throughout the years Sadiiyas has trained with Grammy Award winner and veteran vocal coach Gwen Conley. Most recently, shes teamed with choreographer Violet Galagarza (KR3Ts, Broadway Dance) who has focused on Sadiiyas stage presence, movement and presentation. Sadiiya had been working in the background, stylist by day, performer by night, with a court-side view to artists on their rise to the top; from Alicia Keys to Keyshia Cole, from Mario to Lloyd; she was taking notes. Sadiiya was starting to perform at prominent spots like the Village Underground, Joes Pub or book gigs like BK Fashion Weekend, Atlantis Music Conference and recently Hot97s Blaze The Stage. Shes paying her dues and building a name for herself.

The end result has given Sadiiya a strong point of view in which she has carved out a unique lane through her song writing coupled with an urban fused sonic canvass. At a time when there is so much fear in the world, I want people to believe they can be fearless through my music. She is a new organic funky presence in the world of Urban music. This is reflected in her influences, from Aretha Franklin to Gwen Stefani to Earth, Wind and Fire to Guns & Roses. She collaborated with noted German producer/songwriter, Marcus Brosch whos been producing artists from Europes version of American Idol and has done remixes for Brandy, Lionel Richie and Enrique Iglesias. Their teamwork resulted in the debut International hit Flatline, a song about fighting for the sake of love which is currently available on iTunes, Rhapsody.com and amazon.com.

UME is gearing up for street promotion of the single Lovalicious servicing the single to DJs and records pool in April and targeting radio promotion in May 2009.
