Bio

An Introduction

Saffron is a songwriter who sings and plays the mandolin, mandola and mandocello. Her compositions are challenging for the listener, her lyrics are emotionally intimate and she is personable entertainer. Her sound is ever evolving, and she doesn’t identify with a specific genre-she has created a distinct style that carries through all of her music. Saffron enjoys playing in a variety of environments, where she can communicate with new and familiar audience.

 Her Story

Saffron has been singing all of her life. Her parent’s have always played live music, and Saffron’s mother worked diligently to develop her skills from the time she was an infant. She has always lovingly encouraged Saffron to sing, play instruments, appreciate a variety of art, and to write.

Saffron started participating in choirs at the age of 6, and she studied voice in baroque style with Ron Beckett from age 10 to 18.  These experiences have had a profound impact on her musical influences, and how she composes her music. Saffron has a natural ear for pitch, harmony, and she revels in the tension of dissonance.

Saffron started writing poetry at the age of 9, and has continued to write all through her life.  She first started performing with her friend Jared in 2014, and after they parted ways, she started to teach herself to play the mandolin! From there, she formed Synchronized Silence with a percussionist. Together, they busked, performed small shows around their hometown, and in 2016 they played at the Summerfolk Youth Showcase, and the Lynn River Music Festival. They briefly became a three piece that dissolved.

Saffron started officially performing solo this past October, and she has taken the stage at the University of Toronto, Junction City Music Hall, The Cavern, Free Times Café, Lee’s Palace, Smiling Buddha, Two Doors Down and The Coach House. She looks forward to booking more shows in unfamiliar territory!
