Bio

Zimbabwean-born singer/songwriter Sahara C grew up listening to the likes of Abba, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Billy Idol, Alexander O'Neal, Mariah Carey, Millie Jackson, Anita Baker, Aswad, Bob Marley, Lauren Hill... some other contemporary artists of that time - En Vogue, Sybil, Arrested Development ... and any other music her parents owned.

Sahara C realised at around the age of 5 that she had a love for singing, and was frequently found playing alone on the swing in the backyard, singing loudly with the radio. Spending alot of time with music on days when she could not play outside, she put herself to task of learning the words and learning to sing the songs. Soon this became a bit of an obsession - as she grew older, she would do this instead of playing outside with friends and family.

At the age of 19 in Harare, she approached the owner of a well-known local promotions agency, asking for a gig. After a successful on-the-spot audition, she was offered her first live performance. This was the first of many, and led to Sahara C being asked to sing at the Miss Zimbabwe pageant 1996.

Within 2 years, after a move to the UK, Sahara C found herself unable to pursue her music. In 2006 'the hunger' was awakened within her, and Sahara C has been pursuing it ever since. A regular performer at several London live music venues, Sahara C's aim at expanding horizons and developing her talent began being put into practice.

Beating several thousands of other hopefuls, Sahara C's entry of her as yet unrecorded song "Goodbye Playa" reached the position of semi-finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest, 2007. This achievement was repeated in 2008, when Sahara C reached the same position with her song "No Tomorrow".

Smooth 'soul-tinged' vocals earned her the a place in the finals of the UK Unsigned contest 2008, where she was subsequently called back to perform at the UK Unsigned prestiged follow up event - the Winners showcase.

Recently, her song "Just Dance" was selected, amongst others, to be used by PUMA as part of their promotion of their new fragrance all over the European mainland.

Currently working in the studio to record additional original songs, and some collaborations, Sahara C is seeking new performance opportunities while on a year-long a visit to Australia.
