"Middle of The Map Preview: The Tank Room"

Middle of The Map is fast approaching. The three day music festival that turns all of Kansas City into a venue is, in its 7th year, stacked with such talent. It would be impossible to write about every single act worth seeing this year (which is all of them to be honest). Instead, I want to look at various venues and the acts I’m most excited to see at each. First is The Tank Room. If you haven’t seen a show at this small venue, Middle of The Map is the perfect time to change that (and maybe the last time). The bar and stage have an intimate and cozy feeling but with a sound system that is beyond it. Whether it’s indie pop, jazz, hip hop, or metal, The Tank Room’s PA and sound crew knows how to maximize any acts sound. Middle of The Map promises to be no different.

All of The Tank Room’s shows happen on the last day of the festival, but the entire day is stuffed with music power. Kicking off the day is Sahvannes. The rapper first blipped on my radar during Shuttlecock Music Magazine‘s third Showcase at Mills Record Company. From the moment, Sahvannes took the stage, it was clear the rapper could command a stage. Splitting the difference between artistic modesty and deserved swagger, Sahvannes flits between some of the hardest trap on the KC scene and the most stunningly lyric narratives I’ve heard in any music. Sahvannes will make it. Get in on the ground floor... - Mills Record Company

"Watch: Sahvannes - "Jean Michel" at Mills Record Company"

Sahvannes is still in the process of preparing his debut project, but fans got a taste of new songs as well as renditions of old favorites at his Shuttlecock showcase set in February. Watch Sahvannes take the stage at Mills Record Company and perform "Jean Michel" below. Catch him live again at Middle Of The Map Fest next month in Kansas City.

"Sahvannes – Street Bitches (New Track)"

Date: February 18, 2017Author: Julie S. 0 Comments

I was scrolling through my email this morning, and came across a submission from a Kansas City rapper named Sahvannes. It was called Street Bitches. The title was a little vulgar – but that’s no surprise in the music of hip hop. I didn’t expect it to be anything special; but it was actually really dope.

After pressing play, I immediately noticed the “Suga Suga” sample (Baby Bash + Frankie J) and was drawn in. The song is a perfected balance of straight to the point bars, with a turn up mentality. I never thought Suga Suga could be sampled so well; yet producer SuperShaqGonzoe did just that. He switched it up with knocking bass and rolling hit hats.

Sahvannes puts himself in the category of experimental hip hop “with a goal is to reach and grip people with creativity.” He’s on his way. - Flows For Days

"Sahvannes- Sometime Soon"

This last Saturday I attended Chance The Rapper's "Magnificent Coloring Day" at US Cellular Field. Throughout all the festivities that occurred, from Kanye Ultralight Beaming onto the stage to Wayne performing "Sky Is The Limit", one moment stood out to me the most. Nearing the end of his colorful, puppet-assisted set, Chance began repeating the phrase "Your blessing is coming....Your blessing is coming...Your blessing is coming" and I have never been overcome with such a true feeling of hope before in my life.

The belief that the best is yet to come is something that you must possess if you desire any chance to succeed in life. No matter the struggles that life throws your way, staying optimistic and working towards your dreams and aspirations is a proven recipe to do just that. One artist who has grasped that concept is Kansas City's Sahvannes, and he displays that in his new record "Sometime Soon".

"I break my back every day, fuck this hard living"

Over hard hitting, boom bap production, Sahvannes both sonically and literally, forces you to raise your hands to the beat. Getting introspective with each bar, the KC native takes us through the mentality and emotions of a young, underappreciated creative.

"FRESH DROP: Sometime Soon by Sahvannes"

Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, Sahvannes just dropped this sick underground hip-hop track that has a little bit of everything.

Featuring a dark, rolling bassline that absolutely slams your speaker cones, “Sometime Soon” takes two seeming conflictory vibes and smashes them together. The contrast of a twisted, banging beat against floaty chords create a unique feel that only Sahvannes can put together.

But the beat isn’t the only creative aspect to this track. His lyrics are raw and hit hard. In this rollercoaster of a track, Sahvannes expresses both his inner problems and the ones he has to deal with in real life.

According to Sahvannes, this track is all about “Viewing his life as one huge roller coaster on top of having to balance the vices & struggles of a striving artist has brought Sahvannes to a breaking point. A point in which he feels he may have to do whatever it takes to reach freedom and his right to create without boundary.”

He’s taken inspiration from artists such as Kid Cudi, Outkast, The Gorillaz, Kendrick Lamar, and Tupac; managing to take little elements from each one and combining them in a manner that feels both familiar and original at the same time.

With the depth and creativity of each track he produces, Sahvannes goal is to impact the world in the same way that his favorite Musicians, Painters, and Authors have done before him. Given the level of talent that went into making “Sometime Soon,” we expect that you’ll be hearing a lot more from him in the future.

In the meantime, make sure you hit up Sahvannes and his producer Thebeatspartan on twitter and let ‘em know what you think.

We’ve got plenty new drops for you in the pipeline, so make sure you stay tuned in to Dropped, LA. We’re LA’s only underground hip-hop magazine. - Dropped, LA
