Biography

BIOGRAPHIES

David Rankin, Justin Amyx and Kenny Hill are Saint Jake, a classic jam rock band for baby boomers. Based in familiar roots, Saint Jake brings a fresh approach to a classic genre.
David leads the way on keyboards, vocals and is the songwriter. Kenny Hill shows his years of experience on lead guitar and adds to the vocals. Justin Amyx brings the bass out as a lead instrument. All are live performance veterans and never saw an audience they couldn’t entertain.

With a vision of music for those who have been left behind by the industry, Saint Jake fills the void for the generation who originally embraced rock & roll. The music is strong and the live performance resonates with the audience.

Veteran keyboard player/vocalist David Rankin has an extensive background of live performance, songwriting and studio work. Inspired by Van Morrison, Lowell George, Steely Dan and others, David has written over 600 songs.
With an eclectic approach to music, David continually blends musical styles and seeks interpretations of songs that reach for that elusive vibrancy which yields those rare moments of harmony and tension inherent to the very finest music.
David lives on a secluded farm in southern Ohio with his significant other, Katrina, two black dogs, two wily cats, and his recording studio.

A native of Cincinnati, Kenny has played guitar on the national club circuit since his formative teen-age years, which explains a lot. He has recorded with many local artists on their projects and some of his own. One of Kenny's songs will be on the new Saint Jake cd and he will also be singing a couple of the songs. Trained in all styles of music, Kenny also teaches a few very lucky students.
Kenny lends a tasteful twist to any composition on which he performs.

A life-long guitarist, Justin transitioned to bass a few years ago and has been in love with the instrument ever since. A veteran performer for almost thirty years, his musical influences include Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, The Who, Jackson Browne and Little Feat. He shares a house in the southern Ohio country with his big old dog, T.J.
Justin is looking forward to recording on the third cd by Saint Jake but he is more excited about the upcoming tour and the live shows. "Smiling faces and bobbing heads are what it's all about for me" quoth the Justin.

Black Moon (ascap)

Written By: David Rankin/Alice Spriggs

BLACK MOON

Walking down the street mindin’ your business
While they treat you second best.
It don’t take a lot of good sense
To play your cards close to your vest.

If they treat you with suspicion
It comes out of superstition
A world in this condition
Needs a remedy can’t come too soon.

Oh black moon
Cast a shadow on the stone
And tell them the night ‘s
Where you belong

What it was you know you can’t remember
What it was you did that made it wrong
Nobody gonna tell you all about it
Nobody gonna listen to your song

When they talk about your situation
When they turn a blind eye to the truth
It isn’t your imagination
They’re still watching out for you

Do The Right Thing (ascap)

Written By: David Rankin/Alice Spriggs

DO THE RIGHT THING

One of us baby do the right thing
One of baby do the right thing now
One of us baby do the right thing
One of us baby do the right thing now

Who we fooling
Everybody knows we’re messin around
(one of us baby do the right thing -one of us baby do the right thing now)

Breaking all the rules
I know the words all over town
(one of us baby do the right thing -one of us baby do the right thing now)

Centerpiece of every conversation
Only adds to my frustration
How can I explain my situation
Carried away by infatuation
(one of us baby do the right thing -one of us baby do the right thing now)

Hiding out now
Are they finding out can we ever say
(one of us baby do the right thing -one of us baby do the right thing now)

Gotta slow this down down down
Incriminating evidence could be found
(one of us baby do the right thing -one of us baby do the right thing now)

Evey little noise just makes me worry
Going nowhere in a major hurry
How much money do you think I’ve spent
On bottles of wine and hotel rent
(one of us baby do the right thing -one of us baby do the right thing now)
(one of us baby do the right thing -one of us baby do the right thing now)

Who we fooling
Everybody knows we’re messing around
(one of us baby do the right thing -one of us baby do the right thing now)

Breaking all the rules
I know the word is all over town
(one of us baby do the right thing)

Centerpiece to every conversation
Only adds to your frustration
Every little noise just makes me worry
I know I’m going nowhere in a major hurry
How much money do you think I’ve spent
On bottles of wine and hotel rent
(one of us baby do the right thing one of us baby do the right thing now)

Jump The Stones (ascap)

Written By: David Rankin/Alice Spriggs

JUMP THE STONES

When I met you stranger
With your keys to a Cadillac
You drove down to the rive
Only your car drove back

Turning left on red

Jump the stones and climb the walls
Miss the catch and learn to fall
Got to walk before they make you crawl

Run into the danger
Or hide inside your paper shack
The light down the tunnel
Is your train running off the track

Turning left on red

Jump the stones and climb the walls
Miss the catch and learn to fall
Got to walk before they make you crawl
