"Saint Sea Hat"

Just a few months ago, Saint Sea Hat was little more than a nebulous concept in the mind of frontman Matthew Salas.

His main stint as guitarist for LA indie rockers The Rhone Occupation winding down, Salas decided it'd be pretty effin' awesome to get a motley crew of musicians/friends/artists/creatives together, write some songs, tour up and down the West Coast over the summer, and conveniently touch back down in Silverlake for a welcome-home show just in time for his 31st birthday. Easy peasy.

Think M. Ward meets Death Cab with a veritable punch, and you've got Saint Sea Hat. Half a year after Salas hatched his plan, the band is a full-fledged, 7-member outfit with a set of demos, a recently released digital single and no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Bio

It started as a birthday wish. The idea was to simply start a band and go on tour. Los Angeles to Seattle with spots in between. A summer road trip with friends and music.

So a handful of good friends gathered to see what kind of music they could make. Other friends came to hang out at the jam space and jumped in whenever they wanted. The songs felt good, it was evolving, everyone was getting involved and best of all - it was really, really fun.

That good feeling spread to more friends and soon it seemed less like a new band and more like a community. A collection of creative people was forming - musicians, photographers, writers, cinematographers, dancers, artists, and graphic designers – all loving what they do, and all contributing their talents to evolve that first simple idea.

What started out as a birthday wish turned into a whole summer adventure up the coast and back. Hanging out in places we’ve never been, making new friends, telling stories, laughing, and breaking down on the side of the highway. We were playing random gigs for whoever happened to be there and partying with them afterwards.

When we got back to LA it was obvious that it was simply too fun to stop. On top of that, we were really proud of the music we came up with. So the band continued, we started getting local gigs, we decided to get something recorded and we called ourselves Saint Sea Hat.

So take a listen. Let that good feeling drip across your senses. If you ease into a place where your heads nodding, your lips are parting and your teeth are showing, look us up, gather some friends and come out to see us. You can meet our friends, tell some stories, and we’ll be there doing our thing - laughing and playing our tunes. We love to and we have to; it’s simply too fun to stop.
