Bio

***audio note***
The songs included in this EPK were recorded in 2005, and are the only available recordings of Salix at this time. She has gigged extensively since these recordings were made, and although they give an idea of the music she writes and performs they are not an accurate portrayal of the level of confidence she now delivers on stage. Her performance has improved dramatically in the last year. New audio will be updated as soon as it is available.

Salix first stepped on stage with a guitar at age 15 after finally leaving the cultural vacuum that is Eastern Long Island. She moved to Ulster County New York about 10 years ago, performed for a couple of years, and stopped suddenly for all the wrong reasons as the struggle to survive took over. After a 5 year hiatus, she was involved in a couple of car accidents that woke her up to this fleeting blessing that is life. Her creative drive came back full force, she picked up her instruments again and began performing extensively in a variety of guises including: singer songwriter, keyboardist, ambient sound sculptor, and spoken word poet. She performs solo as Salix, and is also the back-up vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist for the band GIGANTIC!.

Salix's music and poetry are inspired by those moments in her life where she has felt most connected with the universal questions in her that were begging for answers. Her words transmute her soul, and music acts as the translator of the experiences she brings to the stage. Her reflections are brutally honest, eloquently phrased, and melodically expressed. Within a performance, her voice becomes the current that moves through the crowd and makes them present to the emotion that she is experiencing, captivating the audience with an intensity that speaks to the spirit.

Her influences include every sound she has ever heard, and all the luscious sounds in the world that raise the hair on her arms and give her a feeling that she wishes to share with the world. She has been heavily influenced by alternative, punk, underground hip-hop, techno, and the phenomenal underground music scene here in Ulster County that is the most supportive, and densely populated scene she has ever lived amongst.

(Salix is the Latin genus name for willow, and true to her namesake she pulls energy up from the earth bringing it towards the sky, and lets it fall back to touch all who walk near).
