"Sally Finds A Way, with the help of The Gambia Beat Band"

Aspiring singer-songwriter Sally Edmondson has joined forces with The Gambia Beat Band to record one of her songs, A Way! at Sounds Workshop. She has also started her own publishing and recording company, Every Day Music UK, to promote other local songwriters.

Describing her music as an eclectic mix of rock, pop, R&B and World, Sally has been a member of the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers since 1998 and is also a student at Leila Wroe-Johnson's Progressive School of Music in St. Peter. She mostly works from her home studio in Trinity, but has performed occasionally with The Gambia beat Band. The ten-strong African and Latin dance band was inspired by Gambian-born Sheikh 'Blondie' Sohna and James 'Baba' Kennedy and includes musicians from Gambia, the Netherlands, South Africa, Ireland and Jersey.

It was after attending one of the weekend drumming workshops at the end of 2003 that Sally was inspired to write A Way. "It just evolved having spoken to Gill Sohna - 'Blondie's' Jersey-born wife - and hearing how they met', she says. "I might have over-romanticied it a bit, but only a touch - it is a love story after all'.

Born in Harrogate, Sally moved to Jersey in 1978. Depite a life-long love of music, she has only recently started to become involved with music in the Island, going to Squires open mic sessions on Wednesdays. However, she intends to be more pro-active next year. "I am starting in a very modest way and I'll see how it goes', she says. "I think there are talented musicins and singers over year and I'd like to give them an airing. I've been sending my own songs out and about for the past eight years and I have a lot of contacts. - Jersey Evening Post 17/12/04 Jane Delmer

Listen To Your Heart - December 2005

Feeling a bit camera shy

Sally Edmondson Mus. Dip. started writing songs at the age of 14, but life took her in another direction. She started seriously writing songs again in 1997 when she joined the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers (GISC). In 2004 GISC described her song 'A Way' as an excellent project.

Sally's interest in music became completely inextricable when she first heard The Supremes singing Reflections ... and never looked back ...

In November 2004 Sally started her own publishing company Every Day Music (EDM) as a vehicle to promote her own music. EDM4MUSIC! has since expanded to promote the work of other songwriters and singer/songwriters. EDM4MUSIC! now also promotes up-and-coming vocal talent and is currently promoting alternative rock band Anti Everything from Australia.

Sally's song SOMETIMES reached the semi-finals of the Jazz category of the 2005 UK Songwriting Song Contest. Without You was a Finalist in the Song of the Year ( songwriting contest in the August 2005 Pop Category for Without You and has been runner-up with 3 other songs since that time.

Currently Sally is working closely with young UK artiste Jamie Boylan and working towards the release of Jaime's debut album.
