Bio
Singer/songwriter, Sally Kim.
I am a 23 year old kiwi Korean girl, studying English teaching at an Academy over the Shore in Auckland. I have had many various jobs working at cafes, fastfood reataurants, doing gigs, music and language teaching to keep my music going. I enjoy busking on the street and most times have earned more in an hour busking than any other jobs I’ve had.
Music has been like a missing piece of a puzzle in my life, vital but took some time to re-find it. Born as a grand-daughter of a well respected lyricist and Record company founder in Korea, I remember living at grandma’s house within the company buildings at a very young age.
As a young child I take a journey to New Zealand with my immediate family. For a girl barely five years old, it was a sudden farewell to my family and home.
Growing up in New Zealand had its moments, good and bad, and as years go by, I came to appreciate and love New Zealand as my home.
Through my childhood and teenage years I needed a place of emotional refuge which I found in faith and music.
Writing songs came to me quite randomly and suddenly, when one day I thought I had a good poem in my head, wrote it out on paper and put a tune to it. Prior to this experience, I had never written my own song or lyric whatsoever and was quite surprised and encouraged by what I had done as a 15 year old who had stopped music lessons in 3rd form.
‘Home’ was written during a very rough season of my life when I was 17 and since then songwriting has become a crucial channel to express my life-story and daily emotions. Writing has bought healing to my life, so I want to share my lyrics and melody with the world.
