At nine years old SamBeYourself began his musical journey by teaching himself to play the acoustic guitar in his hometown of Detroit. As he progressed into a teenager Sam quickly became a musical jack of all trades learning the electric guitar, drums, piano as well as constructing music on his beat machine. The infectious drumbeats lead Sam to the world of hip hop where he eventually picked up at mic for the first time at age 14. Sams humble beginnings of emceeing and free styling at school with his crew is where he gained the confidence that led him to a self produced mixtape that he released in 2008. That mix tape grabbed the attention of metro Detroit youth and local producers. Shortly after he began his career performing at local Detroit and Canadian venues. After years of releasing music and making beats the opportunity to audition for the Netflix series Rhythm + Flow presented itself and Sam was chosen to audition in Chicago in front of hip hop legends Chance the Rapper, Royce Da 5รข€™9 and Twista. Sam impressed celebrity judges in the audition round and was flown to LA to compete eventually reaching the top 6 out of 30 contestants.
