"SatW Monitors Review"

‘They are creating their very own dance and quite possible a style of music, the Womp. The live show is sure to get you dancing around like an idiot, and I dare you not to be turned on by the 8-piece band….With loads more shows and releases in the pipe line and the guys growing as a unit, I think these guys could become a huge festival band, paving the way for success on many levels.’ - The Monitors

"SatW Fly Global Music Review"

‘Sam and the Womp’s single ‘Bom Bom’ fuses Balkan Brass with Contemporary Dubstep’ (Radio 3, World Roots Program, 2010)

‘Now you wouldn’t think Balkan and dubstep would work but ‘Bom Bom’ goes funky trumpet wobble for US College Marching Band meets London Town jazzsteppa dancefloor - Sam and the Womp pick up where N.O.H.A. caused mayhem with ‘Balkan Hot Step’ five years ago - BIG TUNE!!!!!!!!!!! This is one of the previously unreleased tracks and it’s going to blow up quicker than…..erm ‘Balkan Hot Step’!’ - Fly Global Music

"Bio"

Sam and the Womp explodes with a huge brassy sound, grooving drums and infectious Womping bass. They stormed last year’s festivals and are newly signed to Stiff Records, following in the footsteps of giants like Madness, Elvis Costello, Ian Dury and the Pogues.
Sam and the Womp formed in September 2009 from the joining of highly acclaimed trumpeter, composer and singer Sam Ritchie, alongside DJ & producer Aaron Horn. They rapidly expanded to into a full band and the smash live act you can experience today.
The name WOMP conjures up Dubstep / Drum and Bass style ‘wobble’ bass sounds, but the band’s scope is far beyond that. They draw on influences from traditional Balkan brass alongside Ska and Funk, but also from the dance floor genres like Ragga, Dubstep, Jungle and Pop.
Groups such as Balkan Beat Box, Jazzsteppa, Goran Bregovic, The Progidy and The Skatalites influence the sound. Sam and the Womp’s unique style of music has been described by various promoters and reviewers as ‘Balcanic-ska’, ‘Cabarave’, ‘Gypstep’ or just ‘Womp’.
The energetic live performance is fronted by showman trumpeter Sam Ritchie with his killer horn section punching out catchy riffs and stunning virtuosic solos accompanied by charismatic and provocative vocals from the lovely Lady Oo, with various special guests and dancers. Not to mention the electro-womping bass synth guaranteed to get you moving!
The band has its roots in London but is made up of various nationalities from English to Dutch, Italian and Israeli.
The band has already performed at Glastonbury, Bestival, Gideon Festival in Holland, Big Chill Festival, Secret Garden Party, Ronnie Scott’s and Islington O2 Academy. They are creating their own unique brand of music they’ve nick-named ‘The Womp’ and their live show is sure to get you dancing around with a great big smile on your face!
