Those who serve our country have always deserved our thanks. May 26th, you can express your gratitude around the world via two-way radio.
Amateur Radio Operators from the Fort Wayne Radio Club and the ACARTS will provide two opportunities to talk to members of the military, veterans, and support groups in a live forum. The radio operators also wish to provide an event which helps youth learn about the sacrifices generations of veterans have made to our country.
You can kick off the Memorial Day Weekend at one of the Ham It Up for the Troops event.

Music legends to receive sincerest form of flattery

Can't get to Nashville to see your favorite country music legends?
An Illinois group is organizing a show in Anson that is almost like the real thing.
Some Big Country singers who resemble and sound like country music stars, plus a few out-of-towners and an Anson native who found some success in the music business, perform Saturday at ''Tribute to the Legends,'' which will recreate some of the biggest songs in the classic country music genre.
The Traditional Country Music Foundation, headed by Maggie Penn of Illinois, is producing the show. The group discovered the Anson Opera House because Penn's friend and drummer Jack Higgs is from the Big Country and has relatives in Anson.
Area residents auditioned for the show, organized by the Traditional Country Music Foundation of Illinois. The singers who were chosen were accepted based on their ability look and sound like a classic country music artist.
Big Country residents who auditioned successfully are:
Samantha Allen, Abilene - Patsy Cline
Mary Lee Vinson, Hawley - Anne Murray
Anna Kay Tilton, Brownwood - Dolly Parton
Joining them will be Rudy Grant, a Colorado singer who impersonates Charley Pride; New Mexico resident Willie Lee Luster (Hank Williams Sr.); Oklahoman Mary McDonald (Kitty Wells); and Maggie Penn (Loretta Lynn).
Penn's band Maggie and the Misfits will perform with the singers.
Johnny Moore, an Anson native who left his successful country music career after his friend, singer Jim Reeves, was killed in a an airplane crash, returns to his hometown for the show. Moore, who in recent years resumed his singing career, is also the uncle of Jeannie C. Riley (''Harper Valley PTA'').

The show was a sell out, not even standing room Saturday night. They brought chairs in and lined up along the outer walls of the opera House.
The show went on for 3 hours, the people
did NOT want it to end.
Rudy Grant as Charley Pride, got sick and could
barely talk when he called to tell me he would
not be able to make the show.
The artists that performed were,
Sam Allen (Patsy Cline)
Mary McDonald (Kitty Wells)
She even plays the guitar as Kitty did.
Mary Lee Vinson (Anne Murray)
Willie Luster (Hank Williams Sr,)
Had his son with him playing a
fantastic fiddle on those Hank songs
Danny Letz from Anson, played the
steel guitar for us, and he too added a lot
to the Hank songs as well as the other songs.
They looked and sounded so much like the
artists they portrayed it gave ya chills.
Johnny Moore was happy to be playing in his hometown and he too did a great job. He has
his nephew Kenny Moore with him playing
some lead and rthym guitar.
When we got all the artists the performed and those
that auditioned, but did not get to be on the show
on stage for the finale of....I Saw The Light...with
Willie Luster (Hank Williams) leading it off,
we got a standing ovation!!!
The folks in Anson want to make this a yearly show!!!
Several folks told us we need to take that show
on the road. So far everyone wants to go for it.

Bio
Born in Nashville, Samantha was raised by her grandmother, leaving home when she was just fourteen.
Samantha served in the military for 8 years.
The song “Oceans Between Us” describes the current situation Samantha is in, with her husband being in Iraq for over 2 years.
She has played numerous performances to include the Colgate Country Showdown in Conroe, Texas in 2006 and has been asked to perform at the Paramount Theater in Abilene, Texas in September 2007. She is currently scheduled to perform shows with the Traditional Country Music Foundation in Anson, Texas and Farmington, Illinois.
Samantha is currently working on the release of her first CD with songs from Greg Young, who also wrote “Oceans Between Us”, and enjoys singing both traditional as well as contemporary country music.
Samantha provides priority booking for service members, veterans, and organizations that hold the mission of protecting children such as the Amber Watch Foundation and The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
