There’s no getting around it: it’s Labour Day weekend. The 100 days or so of society-sanction work avoidance ends Monday night followed by what are for most people the three busiest months. Ugh. Until then, though, let’s enjoy the time we have left–and here are some fresh songs to enjoy while you do it. Thanks to Mediazoic for the hosting, too.

Bio

Samara York is a TIMA-nominated, award-winning Canadian singer/songwriter from Richmond Hill, ON, recently known for placing as a top 8 finalist at music festival Indie Week Canada 2016.

York is an increasingly growing and active artist in the local music scene, performing original music live across Ontario for the past six years. Drawing influence from July Talk, The Black Keys, Sia, Fall Out Boy, and Regina Spektor, York's sound is a unique, genre-crossing combination of indie rock, addictive pop, and "experimental alien noises.” Her goal to bring a bold and fresh female sound to the industry has propelled her through four albums, countless shows and multiple accolades for her work at only 23.

Now based in Toronto, York currently records and performs live with a 4-piece band comprised of passionate young musicians. The band has performed at venues across Ontario including The Opera House, The Mod Club, Horseshoe Tavern, Lee's Palace, and more- Also toting festival experience at Indie Week Canada (2014, 2016), RAW: Natural Born Artists (2015), Canada Day & Rib Fest events (2011-2016) and multiple battle-of-the-bands style contests, often winning or advancing to the final round (2012-2016).

Recently, York independently released her 8-song LP "Borderlines" in August 2016, earning her a nomination for a Toronto Independent Music Award in "Best Singer-Songwriter." She went on to play at Indie Week 2016 with her band and beat out 100+ acts for the top 8 Best of Fest IWC Final Round at the Mod Club in November.

Since then, the "Afterthought" Live EP was released in March 2017, featuring three new original songs performed, recorded, and filmed 100% live in studio.

Currently working on fresh new material, this up-and-comer is currently booking shows and festivals for 2017/18! More information on Samara York is available at www.samarayork.com. Questions? Direct email: info@samarayork.com.
