Bio
Samba Elégua was founded in January of 2001 by Ty Keshet. Ty saw a need in Toronto for an open, community-oriented samba-inspired percussion orchestra.
We are a samba-fusion group that takes influences from Brazil and around the world to make arrangements that are truly ours. This is what makes us “Toronto’s sexiest samba con-fusion.” Historically, we have been a predominantly non-Brazilian group led by non-Brazilians. Since its birth, hundreds of people have played in Samba Elégua. We have added unbridled energy to countless of festivals across Ontario.
What separates us from other bands is that we are the only truly open community band, made up of people from all walks of life without discrimination based on musical ability. All who love music and wish to learn are invited to participate in our incredible band and play our explosive repertoire.
What separates us from other brazilian samba bands is that none of us are brazilian and we fuse samba rhythms with funk, reggae, reggaeton, timbalada, olodon and dancehall.
