Bio

From Laplace, LA, the baby of 5ive boys, Samuel Davenport was blessed to be in an environment that was musically friendly. With his father being a drummer, mother a poet and his great uncle Lester Davenport a musician, having played with musical greats such as Bo Diddley and Snooky Pryor; young Sam was destined for greatness. At the young age of 7even Sam picked up his first pair of drum sticks and started playing. After hearing one of his older brothers singing Sam began to pick up on the tunes and sing along. “I have been writing and singing since the age of 9ine, I knew I had a gift because I would not only listen to the music but I could hear and understand it. My dad told me when I was young, “Sam you have an ear for Music”.

Sam did a lot of writing from his adolescent years thru high school. In 2000, Sam graduated highschool and went on to college with the hopes of attending Southern Law School thereafter. While pursuing his undergraduate degree Sam was also taking voice and piano lessons.........“I was taking all these classes not knowing why, still writing and keeping a library of the songs, just for keeps, as I was thinking at the time.” However, after a series of life changing events from Hurricane Katrina, deaths in the family and one of his older brother's near death experience, it dawned on him why he had been placed in such a unique environment and situations. Shortly thereafter he decided to start an R&B group with a cousin and college friend, called Secret. The group was offered a developmental deal with a mojor label but Sam felt he needed to finish school before embarking upon another journey. Sam went on to graduate from Southern University A&M in Baton Rouge with a B.A. in Political Science. After graduating and returning to the Greater New Orleans Area he invested his time and energy into another lifelong dream, acting. One of his college friends suggested that he give it a try, “My friend told me I should do and it and I always wanted to do it anyway so I was like why not?” Since then Sam has been featured most recently in HBO's hit show Treme and many other movies and commercials.

As of late he has been focusing on Life Records L.L.C., an idea he envisioned while in college. Sam believes that music is the voice of life and that music equals life. “I know that music is important, which is the reason I started Life Records, so that artist like myself who live music and the arts can have a place where they are nurtured and have the opportunity to grow." While working on Treme Sam met actor, activist, Wendell Pierce whom he has been studying under for two years. Pierce contributed to the project “The City is Back”, a song written by Sam, by reading a narrative. Also featured on the project are New Orleans own, Terrell Batiste and Edward Jackson III on brass, lyrical artist Big Al, Caesar Parkway, and Dee-1. The song is currently available for purchase on iTunes. Sam is currently in the studio working on his promotional album entitled Life Love and Music. “I know that Life is what you make it, and I feel that Music is missing what I have to offer, Great harmony and Great story telling. I have a story to tell that I feel will resonate with the people.”

Life Records where Music is Life!
