"Tunes of the Blood Folk"

Review of Saturday, November 10 performance at Barge Canal Coffee Company

"Performing their first song a capella displayed the harmonic skill of the members of the band, which was awing, despite its seeming simplicity."

"The most impressive facet of the band was Jenny Collins. Her voice shown [sic] through as shockingly strong and clear, creating a beautiful and deep sound. All the band members seemed to really feel the music, to be emotionally invested in the songs. They played both original music and traditional arrangements. The genre of their music is hard to place."

"...book them and crowds will form. It is safe to say that 'Same Blood Folk' was wildly popular. The Barge was buzzing with excitement beforehand, and enjoyment during, the performance."

"Same Blood Folk Rock"

"The sounds of down home folk tunes rocked the walls of the Barge Canal last week, featuring one of its most crowd pleasing bands..."

- Katie Chlad 12/12/07 - Hamilton/Morrisville Tribune

"Collins receives top prize"

On Saturday Dec. 1, eight local youth acts performed their original music and competed for prizes in the Youth Showcase of Singer-Songwriters sponsored by the Earlville Opera House at Hamilton's Palace Theater. The competition was decided in a two-part method of scoring by a panel of judges and crowd enthusiasm measured by a decibel meter. The combination of technical elements and audience appeal placed Zachary Collins, of Hamilton-based Same Blood Folk, as first prize winner.

Collins was awarded the grand prize of a four-song demo CD recording package plus an optional global distribution package through the Orbital Soundz "Breakthrough Artist Series" program.

"Same Blood Folk Interview - July/August 2008"

Jenny Collins is the startling lead voice for the Hamilton based Same Blood Folk. This amazing (and let me emphasize amazing) three piece Americana band, is one of the best kept secrets in the Upstate music scene.

The trio made up of Jenny Collins on vocals, guitar, harmonica and stomp box, Zach Collins on banjo, mandolin, guitar and vocals, and James White on percussion and vocals, is the real deal for sure!

Very swampy, incredibly catchy, and unbelievably adept, vocally and musically - this band has Grassroots Festival written all over it! - Upstate LIVE - NY State Music Guide

"Hamilton Village Series Highlights Same Blood Folk 7/10/2008"

As frequent performers at the Barge Canal Coffee Company in Hamilton, they have clearly won the heart of assistant manager Susan Pasachnik who explains, "The family members of Same Blood Folk bring you originals with tight harmonies as well as a folk rock edge that creates an inviting live show that will have you singing along and tapping your feet." - Mid-York Weekly - Hamilton, NY

Upstate NY Live Music Guide's Erik Jensen says, "Jenny Collins is the startling lead voice for the Hamilton based Same Blood Folk. This amazing, (and let me emphasize amazing) three piece Americana band, is one of the best kept secrets in the Upstate music scene. Very swampy, incredibly catchy, and unbelievably adept, vocally and musically - this band has Grassroots Festival written all over it!"

Same Blood Folk's style resonates with the roots of Americana and traditional music, bluegrass and rock, for compelling and soulful original songs.

Whether performing on giant festival stages or in intimate coffee house settings, Same Blood Folk interweaves their musical talents to draw their audience closer with every song. You'll find yourself humming the stick-in-your-head melodies, singing along to the memorable lyrics, and tapping your foot to the ready beat.

Jenny Collins' clear-as-honey voice adds depth and character to songs she's written and delightfully balanced harmony to duets. Jenny has opened for such acts as Blues Traveler and Little Feat with evocative layers of resonance and rhythm from the bass guitar while showcasing her natural musical ability with the acoustic guitar, harmonica and stomp box.

Zachary Collins has played the guitar since he was 6 and wrote his first song at the age of 11. His mesmerizing guitar talents show themselves on occasion without being overpowering or boasty. Zachs voice is measured, reassuring, even poetic. He easily moves from acoustic to electric guitar, mandolin, and banjo.

Brendan O'Connor provides a deeply technical and outlandishly funky percussion backbone and joins the others with an appreciation for traditional music. Brendan has played with a series of bands since he began making music seriously five years ago.

Colin Nevison is a recent addition to the band, adding texture and richness to the band's solid sound on the keyboards, harmonica, and popping in for an occasional piece on an antique accordion.
