"Gateway Music Festival Featured Band Series: SameSoul"

More information on the band:
samesoul.com

Samesoul is a fresh new band coming onto an under populated jam band scene with a fresh new sound. The band is currently working on producing their first album with much anticipation from several fans. Chris Jesse lays down raspy clean vocals in the manner of a well established blues singer. The music is well developed and the talent of Derick Howard, lead guitarist oozes in each song. Joe Devito on the bass and Joel Storm on the drums keep that funky, bluesy, organic vibe flowing throughout each song.

The band seems to borrow a lot of their sound from the jam bands before them. Quick, intelligent lyrics echo Trey Anastasio’s work. At times, the coal track sounds a lot like Gov’t Mule with a lot less gravel. The music also recalls the work of Stevie Ray Vaughn on many of the tunes. The band has obvious gel onstage and hopefully this translates into a well done studio recording.

Samesoul plays live with enthusiasm and talent. Each member gets a chance to stand out in typical jam band style, but no one dominates the show. The band mates laugh and thoroughly enjoy their opportunity on stage, giving the fans a real treat during their performance. They are not your typical flashy musicians though; they keep their talents in check and show it off discreetly on stage.

If you can not wait for an album from Samesoul, the lead guitarist, Derick Howard has already released a solo album; showcasing his ability has a musician on his own. He provides sweet vocals with astonishing guitar rhythm and flourishes with his own drum loops taking advantage of drums outside of the typical kit. The sound is definitely reminiscent of SameSoul and each track plays off as the effort of a hardworking musician who at times barely has to try to make a beautiful sound.

SameSoul is a band with a future that is heading toward the jam circuit. Do not look for them on the Top 40 radio, but instead out in the festival fields of America with a solid core fan base. They are less a band for the people and more a band of musicians for musicians. The songs are fun and catchy, so a breakthrough may not be that far fetched, but the true beauty of this band is the capability to turn any song in their catalog into a jam track that stretches the beauty into a masterpiece of musicianship.

Discography

we're currently in a studio finishing our first original album. our original music is a fresh look at life and love with familiar originality. we have a song that plays on our hometown radio station quite frequently. the song is called "Papas Goin' Fishin', written by Chris Jesse. You can find the song on a charity double disc titled "Madison Bands Together". the song was written for that charity drive and took off from there. it is the most requested song when samesoul plays the area. we also have four original songs that went live-webcast for a missing persons benefit during the "Squeeky Wheel Tour"(feat. Clementine from Orange Co., California).
the website would be 411gina.org.

Bio

samesoul is a two year working band. we go in and adapt to our atmosphere. we're really good at working the crowd and thats kind of our nitch. we play familiar tunes that appeal to both young and old alike. people often ask if we play any music made after we were born. we like classic, obscure rock i guess you could say. we hit some laid back, toe tapping country music as well as top 40 classic rock. we're influenced by the music of our fathers. The Dead, The Allman Bros. Crosby Stills and Nash, America. we also play todays softer rock like Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Sublime, ect. we put off a good vibe because we're basically having fun doing what we're doing and we like to see others having fun. the music is tight and people dance all night. we're an up-beat solid band who works hard to do a good job.
