NYC-based rock/pop singer and songwriter, Samia, released her new song and video "We Have the Right", a moving anthem for marriage equality. She herself is pansexual and an outspoken supporter of LGBT rights, and Samia's amazing voice and spirit shine though in this truly inspiring track. - BroadwayWorld.com

"EXCLUSIVE: Samia - "We Have the Right""

New York-based singer Samia is exclusively premiering her new video for "We Have the Right" here on AfterEllen.com and we couldn't be more thrilled to share her pro-equality anthem with you. The song was inspired by Stonewall and the progress we've made as a country when it comes to achieving LGBT rights, as well as the ones we continue to fight for. The video has clips from rallies and riots and Samia's fans and their families, and the lyrics are equally as inspiring. - AfterEllen.com

"New Music: "Lose Me" - Samia"

New York’s Samia has often been described as a “female Steven Tyler”, but her debut single “Lose Me” recalls the early days of The Black Crowes more than the Toxic Twins. Like the Crowes, “Lose Me” is pure rock and roll swagger and sweat, but with elements of soul, blues, and country thrown in. Samia sounds right at home belting out bluesy yelps over greasy guitar leads and a tight rhythm section. ”Lose Me” is a good reminder that good old fashioned rock and roll never truly fades away. - Matt Satterfield, Leading Us Absurd

Bio

Samia Mounts was born into a military family in Germany and raised on an army post in Seoul, Korea. She began singing at a very early age, and gave her first live performance for an audience of 500 when she was only five. She began writing her own songs soon after and has never stopped. Music has always been her first passion and greatest love.

After working as a back-up singer and voice actor in New York City for five years, Samia started her band in fall 2012 and began crafting her sound as a solo artist. With influences such as Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin Shirley Manson, and P!NK, Samia's music and voice are a unique blend of pop, rock, blues, and soul. Her songs are written from her own experiences, and the thread that runs through all of her music and live performances is a passionate authenticity that infuses every song with meaning and life. When Samia sings, she sings with her soul, and she sings her truth.

That raw passion is why she's been described as the "female Steven Tyler" and is often compared to artists such as Freddie Mercury and Tina Turner. Samia's flair for the theatrical, intense emotional power, and thrilling vocal range are the reasons she was able to debut her new band at the famous Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in November 2012. Since then, she and her band have played to packed houses at New York City hotspots including Arlene's Grocery and the Bitter End.

Samia is also openly queer and a passionate LGBTQ activist. Her new track about marriage equality, "We Have The Right," will be available on all major music platforms on June 18 and will be included as a bonus track on her upcoming self-titled EP.

Samia will release her debut EP on July 16, 2013.
