Bio

Sam was born in Seoul, Korea, and grew up in a pastor's family, where he was exposed to many different kinds of arts. He began playing electric bass and running sound while studying Electronic Engineering at Hanyang University, Korea. In 2001, he came to America to volunteer for Campus Crusade for Christ in Los Angeles, CA. Then, he started studying music and bass with Zach Hahn and Jonathan Ahrens, and decided to pursue music as his career.

After receiving a B.S. degree at Hanyang University in 2004, he came back to the USA to continue his studies on music. During his study on Jazz Composition and Performance degree at Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA, one of the most prestigious music schools in the world, Sam had great opportunities to study with John Lockwood, Steve Rochinski, Matt Garrison, Whit Browne, Jetro da Silva, Hal Crook, Bruce Gertz, Greg Hopkins, Ken Pulling, Scott Free, Bob Pilkington etc, which made him able to grow immensely in his music. Later, Sam received Wayne Shorter Award, and Bass Department Achievement Award, and Berklee Achievement Scholarship for his rapid accomplishments.

Within few years in Boston, Sam has quickly become one of the most demanded bassists in New England area because of his versatility on various styles of music such as Jazz, Funk, Gospel, R&B, and Rock. Also he performed with world-renown musicians such as George Garzone, John Blackwell, George Russell Jr., Steve Rochinski, Phillip Ferrell, Tim Hughes, Yoon Seung Cho, etc…

After graduating from Berklee in December 2008, he has been very active in music scene in East Coast as a freelancing bassist, sound/recording engineer, and composer/educator and appeared on numerous CDs, film music projects, Jazz Clubs, concerts, conferences, TV, and Radio shows across the country.
