Sam Kills Two

 London, England, GBR
BandAlternativeSinger/Songwriter

Warm, organic songs with wonderfully thought through arrangements that leaves just enough room for the gentle melodies to breathe. Sitting at the epicentre of this gorgeously understated but vast music is that instantly recognisable fragile vocal reminiscent of a less haunted Mark Kozelek.

Biography

In 2005, a few years after moving to london from his small hometown in Sweden, singer songwriter Fred Bjorkvall, through chance at a gig at Fortress Studios, met guitarist Geoff Gamlen. Only days after their first meeting they were rehearsing together at Gamlen's north london studio and begun shaping the powerful yet devastatingly fragile sound that signifies the band today.

After a year of playing gigs in and around London as a duo they felt that something was missing in the dynamics and so they recruited drummer Matt Bell. He acted as a catalyst and mid 2007 they felt ready to start the recording of their debut album. They joined forces with a friend, midlands based producer and bass player Nigel Clark. With Clark, the perfect tone was created for Fred’s hymnal vocals to a backdrop of delicate acoustic and electric instrumentation.

Along with a previously recorded instrumental track (Flatland) they put the first 2 songs recorded with Nigel onto an EP and released it on digital download in April 2007 with the track listing , Electric Shock, Polar Winter and Flatland.

In March 2008 the whole album was fully recorded and mixed. The 11 tracks were sent out in various directions of the music industry and they also rekindled communication with indie label Rocket Girl. As a result, at the end of April they signed to to the label. Shortly after they also recruited Liverpudlian bass player Jay Rigby who immediately proved to be the perfect choice for the band and added yet another dimension to the sound both live and in the studio. In Feb 2011 as a four piece collaboration they released their second LP 'Pretty Ugly', also on Rocket Girl Records.

Pushing My Love

Written By: Fred Bjorkvall

the tripsitter expects my call
i'm like a pinball between these four walls
there's a surge through the southwestern sky
and a storm pushes by with a sigh

dry sand 'cross the great desert plains
i have visions of you in the rain
there's a road that leads brotherly love
and all that is good is above

all the while i'm pushing my love aside
i'm pushing my love aside
i'm pushing my love

the tripsitter expects my call
i'm like a pinball between these four walls
there's a surge through the southwestern sky
and a storm pushes by with a sigh

all the while i'm pushing my love aside
i'm pushing my love aside
i'm pushing my love

I Drew A Breath

Written By: Fred Bjorkvall

i rode the road
the only road to ride
to get out of here

i flew the flight
the only flight to fly
to have you near

i drew a breath
the only breath to draw
and i heard i quiet prayer
for a brighter day

you hear the sound
of the express train going down
the line of your heart

and all the pretty people
they're parading the frontiers
and it's state of the art

i drew a breath
the only breath to draw
and i heard a quiet prayer
for a brighter day

Make Us Proud

Written By: Fred Bjorkvall

weightless
but you know i've got a sinking heart
a warmhearted brother in arms helps me with a kickstart

hours
marked out on a gridded chart
i wake and i quietly stare at a proverb on a miniature flipchart

i bet you're gonna make us proud

floodlights
light up your beating heart
inside out on display it looks just like a work of art

quick turns
like a little rabbit running the field
you're caught in the upstream again before your arms have had time to heal

i bet you're gonna make us proud

so much easier to be anyone
so much easier to be anyone
so much easier to be anyone
than someone

i bet you're gonna make us proud

Rocks And Hard Places

Written By: Fred Bjorkvall

eddie plenty holes
he never felt the fire so hot
he couldn't turn it down
he couldn't turn it down
he couldn't turn it down

oh his royal soul
he rode out of town
with fire in his crown
with fire in his crown
he couldn't turn it down

rocks and hard places
rocks and hard places
rocks and hard places is what they gave to you
x2

oh it's black and white
empty promises all night
all you hear is the sound
of whispers on the ground
of whispers all around

the future was so bright
everthing was gonna be alright
the colonel's steady hand
drew lines in the sand
drew lines in the sand

rocks and hard places
rocks and hard places
rocks and hard places is what they gave to you
x2

rocks and hard places
rocks and hard places
rocks and hard places is what they gave to you
x2

Sorrow Queen

Written By: Fred Bjorkvall

all the kids in a row
with all their secrets
kept inside
all the structures around you collapse
all under tidal radio waves

sorrow queen of sorrow town
pale face white gown
you have inflamed thoughts and a broken crown
pale face
white gown

here it comes, electricity
it flows through old crippled power lines
oh that positive, that positive charge
it used to be a friend of mine

sorrow queen of sorrow town
pale face white gown
you have inflamed thoughts and a broken crown
pale face
white gown

sorrow queen of sorrow town
pale face white gown
you have inflamed thoughts and a broken crown
pale face
white gown
