Sam Lardner & Barcelona have been bringing their killer flamenco fusion to audiences in Spain, the UK and North America since joining forces 3 years ago. Sam is the inspiration and voice. His band is the rhythm and color. Together, a totally unique and uplifting act.

Biography

Sam Lardner & Barcelona is everything that a cross-cultural musical experience should be: artists from different traditions meeting in a place where everyone shines brighter, the kind of eclectic collaboration the world needs now more than ever. Sam is a seasoned veteran of the American folk and acoustic tradition. He has performed throughout the U.S. as a solo act, and he has led a smoking hot country band around Europe for the past 7 years. A full-time resident of Barcelona, he is often categorized by fans and critics as a member of the "Why aren't you famous?" club. His voice and writing are reminiscent of James Taylor in the most intimate moments, although he is often compared to Sting when he allows his voice to soar. Sam's guitar playing is rock-solid, powerful, pure rhythm and provides the energy and pulse around which his band, Barcelona, revolves.

Barcelona is, artist by artist, a brilliant group. Antonio Restucci is a world-class solo guitarist in his own right, and Matias Miguez is considered one the best latino bass players of his native Argentina. Alba Carmona and Alba Guerrero add richness, depth and color with their syncopated clapping rhythms and powerful vocal harmonies. The net result is an unforgettable, evocative musical journey through life and love in modern Spain.

Sam's recently released CD, titled "Barcelona" is a rare melodic journey through love in all its colors that anyone who is serious about the topic will want to listen to many, many times over.

---------

Lyrics

When Morning Comes

Written By: Sam Lardner

In the heart of this night
Somewhere under all these lights
In the labyrinth of this old town beside the shore
Through the archways of stone
Over bridges from a world gone by
In these places that bound our lives, you walk for sure

May the duende* always dance upon your shoulder
May the music of this people ease your mind
And may God give you the peace you hope to find
When morning comes

There's a heart of a child
Somewhere under all these lies
In the labyrinth of this one soul that wants for more
In the archways of stone
Under bridges from a world gone by
In these places that bind our lives, that child endures

May the duende* always dance upon your shoulder
May the music of this people ease your mind
And may God give you the peace you hope to find
When morning comes

May the duende always dance upon your shoulder
May the music of this people ease your mind
And may God give you the peace you hope to find
When morning comes

* The “duende” is the invisible muse or magical elf that sits on the shoulder of flamenco artists and breathes inspiration into their performances. When an artist has had a particularly brilliant night, the credit often goes to his or her duende. Probably as it should be. Who really knows where the extra inspiration comes from in a live show?

On Our Way

Written By: Sam Lardner

You and I are standing there alone
Everybody else has gone outside to watch the show
Waiters rush around us as the fireworks begin
The windows of the old club shaking from within

On our way
The fireworks are calling
On our way
The burning sparks are falling
On our way
I love you, but I’m sorry
If I can’t help remembering
The time that we were on our way

Everybody’s heart is in the air
You and I walk out into the garden hand in hand
Smoke hangs in the foreground as the rockets burst behind
Pounding on our chests and lighting up our eyes

On our way
The fireworks are soaring
On our way
The midnight sky is roaring
On our way
I love you, but I’m sorry
If I can’t help remembering
The time that we were on our way

Long ago I took those vows with you
And I remain forever by your loving side
We’ve looked at the alternatives to being here as two
They’re standing all around us wondering what to do

On our way
The fireworks are soaring
On our way
The midnight sky is roaring
On our way
I love you, but I’m sorry
If I can’t help remembering
The time that we were on our way

A House In The Sky

Written By: Sam Lardner

I’m gonna build you a house in the sky, love
Where the only one there is you
And then I’ll throw up a great big sign, love
Made of white clouds that say “Taboo”

You my life will be oh so sweet there
Sun above and the earth below
Just you and me and a choir of angels
Nobody down here will ever know
Just you and me and a choir of angels
Nobody down here will ever know

Only the ones that fly will know this
That you can see the light that shines above
Only the ones that fly will know this
That you can see the light from the great beyond
I’m gonna to build you a house in the sky, love
So the world will leave you all alone
I’m gonna to build you a house in the sky, love
So the world will leave you all alone

Now this house has got no foundation
It’s an invention I can call my own
That hangs on threads thrown down from heaven
By the angels that I have known

And if anyone should ever ask you
Why I built you a house in the sky
Just say that secret belongs to me, love
Nobody else in the world knows why
Just say that secret belongs to me, love
Nobody else in the world knows why

CHORUS

Now if anyone should ever ask you
How you get to your house in the sky
Just say there ain’t no road to heaven
Not everybody can learn to fly

You know my life will be oh so sweet there
Sun above and the earth below
Just you and me and a choir of angels
Nobody down here will ever know
Just you and me and a choir of angels
Nobody down here will ever know

CHORUS

Do Nothing

Written By: Sam Lardner

“Do nothing”, said the neighbor from her roof,
“That geranium looks down and out
But my advice to you is
Do nothing, there’s no logic but it’s true
When the winter turns to spring the flowers will bloom”

“Do nothing”, said the music on the floor,
“Any effort to resolve this one
Will only hurt things more
Do nothing, let this song stand on its own
If it’s meant to it will make the feeling known”

Do nothing....

“Do nothing”, said the true love through her tears
February sky as dark as slate
The coldest spell in years
“Do nothing, I’ll recover or I won’t
But you need to leave this broken heart alone”

Do nothing....

Be

Written By: Sam Lardner

Be
I would give the whole world
Just to be
Back there on those long lovely nights
Where the winter air had frozen time
And flames and dreams were all I had in mind
By the fire, in your arms,
The way it's meant to be

Throw your cares and problems aside
And let's be, right here in this moment of time
No more hurry up, slow things down
Feel the earth go 'round and 'round tonight
By the fire, like old times
The way it's meant to be

Staring at the fire, what do I see?
All my heart's desires if I could only be

Be the one to lighten your load
So I could stop..stop this world from dragging us down
Honey, I love you for all we've seen
Of heaven, hell and in between
Let's be, by the fire
Right now, right here, come on let's be
Right here just you and me....

Angel

Written By: Sam Lardner

From the Zurich where the exiles meet
Cross the Rambla through the Gothic Streets
They come down to you
Barcelona’s lonely crew
Down through Plaça Real
Left at Los Caracoles
To your club on Escudellers

Angel, one more, hear them call your name
Angel, don’t go, got to find my way back to you

Not so long ago as it might seem
Nor so far away as in a dream
I was there with you
Close enough to call it true
All that music inside
All that dancing around you
All that light shining on your stage

Angel, one more, hear them call your name
Angel, don’t go, got to find my way back to you

One night, Angel, I’ll come home to you
When this world grants me a change or two
Ever as before
Down the stairs and out the door
Down through Plaça Real
Left at Los Caracoles
To your club on Escudellers

Angel, one more, hear them call your name
Angel, one more, hear them call your name
Angel, one more, hear them call your name
Angel, don’t go, got to find my way back to you

When They Go

Written By: Sam Lardner

Once a year Quim comes down
And he goes wandering through his old hometown
No one sees, no one knows
Life goes on below
Almond trees, grape filled vines
Sole reminders of a gentler time
Earth red cliffs, olive hues
Ocean greens and blues

And he goes high, so high when he goes
Silently climbing and cautiously winding
The stairway that he used to know
So long, long ago
Rosemary floats in the air from the garden
The Alvarez girls singing “le le … le le le lo le……”

Eyes like coals that laugh and shine
Skin as brown as berries, lips like wine
Long since gone, still they call
Sirens, sirens all

And they go high, so high when they go
Silently climbing and cautiously winding
The stairway they all used to know
So long, long ago
José Luis on his golden guitar
And the Alvarez girls singing “le le le le … le le lo!……”

Watch them rising, rising to the sun
Oh, life goes by like the flight of a dove
The beat of a heart, the blink of an eye
Voices, voices, rising with this song
For a hero of their time
Here them sing “le le lo! ……”

La vida, la vida, la vida, la vida……

I Get Lost (Me He Perdido)

Written By: Pedro Hermosilla/Sam Lardner

I got lost the night I found you
With a thousand stars around you
I got lost when I first heard them breath your name
I got lost as I drew near you
Seeking the words that might endear you
I got lost, and I have never been the same

Every waking hour I'm with you
Every time I hold you tight
Every aching mile I miss you when I'm up here on a lonely flight
Every time I realize another year's gone by
I get lost inside your love babe, my oh my

Me he perdido, me he perdido
Me he perdido, I'm so lost inside of you
Me he perdido, me he perdido
I'm so lost inside this love I found with you

I get lost inside your eyes though I've been there a million times
I get lost inside the sweet glow of your smile
I get lost in all your charms, I go to pieces in your arms
When I'm lost inside your love I feel alive

Every waking hour I'm with you
Every time I hold you tight
Every aching mile I miss you when I'm up here on a lonely flight
Every time I realize another year's gone by
I get lost inside your love babe, my oh my

Me he perdido, me he perdido
Me he perdido, I'm so lost inside of you
Me he perdido, me he perdido
I'm so lost inside this love I found with you

Don't Get Me Wrong

Written By: Chrissie Hynde

Don’t get me wrong
If I’m looking kind of dazzled
I see neon lights whenever you go by
Don’t get me wrong
If you say “hello”, and I take a ride
Upon the sea where the misty blue
Is playing havoc with the tide
Don’t get me wrong

Don’t get me wrong
If I’m acting so distracted
Just thinking about the fireworks
That go off when you smile
Don’t get me wrong
If I split like light refracted
I’m only off to wander
Across some moonlit mile

Once in a while
Two people meet
Seemingly for no reason
They just pass on the street
Suddenly thunder showers everywhere
But who can explain
The thunder and rain
When there’s something in the air

Don’t get me wrong
If I come and go like fashion
I might be great tomorrow
While hopeless yesterday
Don’t get me wrong
If I fall in a moment of passion
‘Cause it might be unbelievable
So let’s not say “so long”
‘Cause it might be unbelievable
Don’t get me wrong

Those Little Things

Written By: Joan Manuel Serrat/Sam Lardner

One might suppose that time and space
Would ease the sorrow
But every train that leaves today
Comes back tomorrow
And it’s those little things that happenstance discloses
That remind me of our time of poems and roses
Upon a paper
In a drawer
Or in a corner

And there like thieves behind the door
They lurk in silence
Knowing they’ve got you where they want you
All surprises
Like those autumn leaves the wind blows through the air
Smiling sadly as they fly from here to there
That make us cry
When we are certain
No one can see

Postcard From Rome

Written By: Sam Lardner

Somewhere on the night train
Someone stole my boots
Someone stole my backpack, too
They grabbed it while I dreamt of you
One voice told me, “Go home”
One voice told me, “Cry”
One voice said, “Hey, drink this up
I’ll show you paradise”

I walked the ancient roads
To Rome and back again
I left it all behind
All I took was my own sweet time
I felt holy, holy, holy, holy
I did Rome in a blaze of glory
Now I’m coming home to you

No one gave me problems
Once my feet were bare
No one gave a damn for me
They hardly noticed I was there
One kid called me “Jesus”
One man called me “Bum”
One girl blew a kiss to me
Then she vanished on the run

I walked the ancient roads
To Rome and back again
I left it all behind
All I took was my own sweet time
I felt holy, holy, holy, holy
I did Rome in a blaze of glory
Now I’m coming home to you

Holy, holy, holy, holy
I did Rome in a blaze of glory
Now I’m coming home to you
