"California Dreaming"

..listening to the lyrics and music of the record. I can’t help but think of blue skies, cumulus clouds and vintage convertibles when I listen in. California dreamin’ reborn. - Twangville

"Dream Flying"

Driving over the Grapevine with this CD playing loud was like dream flying through the life of somebody whose eyes were just like mine. Suburban weltshmerz with a swinging beat and tones to just plain die for. So insightful and poetic that it can't just be country: it's more like continent. - CD Baby

"Classic Sun"

This sounds old school, like rockabilly, a little country, and the classic sun records sound all blended. I’m diggin it.
- Twangville

"Feircely American"

These guys have a fiercely American sound that is hard to pin down, but they will grab your heart in -- well -- a heartbeat. Happy and playful one minute, wistful (even sad) the next -- they prowl your hometown for a while (and oh yes they know where you live) --then you're invited around the corner and down the road a piece. Pretty darned swell! - CD Baby

Bio

Sam Mellon and The Skylarks, often classified as an "Alternative Country" band, are somewhat difficult to classify. This Los Angeles based band have developed a unique reputation of blending Americana, Vintage Country, Rock and Folk music styles. The Skylarks have been making music together since the Summer of 2005.

The bands current CD release is their debut recording, which was initially begun in September of 2005 at the House of Faith Recording Studio in Oakland, CA with engineer Bart Thurber. Wanting to remain true to their Alt-Country/Americana/Roots-Rock sound the Skylarks recorded to an analog 16-track, 1-inch tape that provided an appropriate sonic palette. Mixing and post-recording production was performed principally by Dave Ray with engineering assitance from Ed Tree and Jon Griffin. Myles Boisen in Oakland performed the mastering.

The Skylarks recording reveals a band in its early origins, giving a glimpse into five unique personalities shaping the soul of their music style while paying respect to the influences which inspire them.

The Skylarks are currently playing in and around the Los Angeles area, and are making plans for the recording of their next album in the early months of 2008.
The finished product captures the sound of the birth of a band that respects the soul of the genuine music which inspires them, and marks as inspiring origin for what's to come from this band.

The Skylarks are currently playing all over the Southern California area. Check their web-page to find out about upcoming performances.
