"Coffeehouse Review"

When listening her lastest production Buttercup Hamsterjuice, you get the feeling that something wholsome and natural is happening. It is music that fits into the natural way of living, and it is music that brings others to want to join in and be a part of. - Norman Cristofoli

"Review of Buttercup Hamsterjuice"

Reviewer: Peter Harris

'Kissing on bridges' could be an apt metaphor for listening to the Ellen Carol. It was Heraclitus who said, one 'could not step into the same river twice.' Every time I play these songs I hear something new. Tone, melody, lyric can all make you feel as though you know this woman. But listen again and it's a whole different girl. Love in transition. Everything travels. Nothing can stay. Like a kiss on a bridge, it ends when you wish it would go on, it wrenches your heart and haunts you for a long time after… I don't know what's up with the album title…

"Folk-Pop femmes Bri-anne Swan and Ellen Carol team up at the Grasshopper"

Among the many other things I like about young Folk-Pop songwriter Bri-anne Swan is that it's thanks to her that I first met Ellen Carol, a likewise talented entertainer and performer. I noticed Carol singing back up for Swan at a show and later enjoyed hearing her own tunes, delving into her two currently released albums of originals.
What a thrill, then, for me and like minded fans of the two chanteuses, to learn they're teaming up as a duo for a night of song that should be by turns enchanting, tender, challenging and outrageous. It takes place at cozy basement hangout The Grasshopper at 460 Parliament Street at Carlton, Friday June 23rd. - to-night Magazine

Country: Canada
Repertoire: Acoustic Alt Country
Biography Date: March 2013

MMM, You will love the juicy pop-rock sounds that are bursting to come out of this epic Canadian combo!
Sammy takes the flavours of Lucinda Williams, They Might Be Giants and The Rheostatics and combines them with a groove circa Tom Petty and Lamb. They embrace a certain Canadian sarcasm along with the ability to speak the truth and make it melodious.
The main ingredients:
Colleen Costello
Imagine Nine Inch Nails meets the Cranberries and they move to the country to record in a solar powered studio.
Colleen (Antler, Taffy, solo) has played stages all across Canada including the Mariposa Festival, Toronto City Roots festival, Pride Toronto, live performances on TV talk show Daytime, CIUT and CFMU radio and indiecan.ca podcasts. She has done recording and backup sessions with Don Kerr (Rheostatics, Ron Sexsmith) and her solo EP Glazed Over was created with engineer/producer Mitch Girio (King Apparatus).
She was a finalist in the 2009 Independent Music Awards for her song "Lavender and Sweet", and has a number of songs in the popular short film "Falling for Caroline."

Ellen Carol
Born on the Canadian prairies and drawn to the Rocky Mountains, Ellen Carol (Some of the Parts, Taffy, solo) took the long way around before landing in Charlottetown PEI. Performing in places like Trap 77, San Pedro Guatemala, The Rai Lai Beach Fire Fundraiser in Thailand, Karma Cafe in Hollywood California and The Surf Club in Malpias, Costa Rica. Sporting heart on her sleeve attitude and storytelling with integrity, Ellen captures vignettes from her life and transforms them into song.
Besides releasing her 2008 album Slidin' which was recorded with Don Kerr at The Rooster, Ellen has a passion for organizing fundraising events such as PWA at Hugh's Room, The Sammy Sugar Day Festival, & East Coast Tour.
Ellen has also had a variety of songs placed in the movies Falling for Caroline, Too Late to say Goodbye, and At Risk.

Keith Greene
In the last fifteen years, Keith has written and recorded literally hundreds of songs, performed more shows than he can remember, and occasionally people tell him that they heard him on the radio.
Keith Grief began writing and recording songs at the age of thirteen, and started performing at the age of fifteen. In 1994, he formed "The Goodtime Clubsters", a local fixture in the Okanagan, sharing the stage with touring independent bands such as Cub, The Smugglers, Zumpano, Duotang, and Thrush Hermet.
In 2001-2003, Keith was enlisted to play guitar in the rock supernova known as "The Smears".
Also, in 2001, Keith and Allyson Mara formed "The Feminists". They released a 6-song demo in 2001, and made it to the Shindig semi-finals. In 2002 after touring western Canada, The Feminists released 2 albums "Anything You Can Do" and "She Could Be" and toured Canada from Victoria, BC to Sidney, NS from 2003 to 2006. Both albums had countless plays on CBC radio 1 and ranked #1 on college charts. He followed up with the Vancouver band The Buffalo Jump, which lasted 2 years and produced some great songs that have yet to see the light of day.

So the winning number turns out to be 3: perfect for touring, endless creativity and a full live sound without breaking the ego bank! Sammy with an M... a magical blend of sarcasm and melody you can groove to.
