Bio
Samo (meaning sky in Tajik) was started in 2006 at the Gurminj Museum of Musical instruments in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The members come from the same village in the Pamir mountains, where music is an integral part of everyday life. All of them have played music since childhood, learning melodies from relatives and visiting professional musicians. They all sing and play several instruments. Samo mainly plays Pamiri music, but also covers the musical traditions of other regions of Tajikistan. They use many traditional musical elements and genres, including Falak (funerary genre), darguilik (lament songs) and lalaik (lullabies). Samo performed in 2006 in Dushanbe (Gurminj museum, other venues). In 2008, they took part in the folk festival in Rudolstadt (Germany) and went on tour in the USA.
