Bio

Sam Perry has been involved in music his whole life, starting off in a post high-school band "retrospect" who had a good run of gigs including supporting Eskimo Joe and Sam personally winning prizes for his songwriting abilities. He played rythm guitar and shared vocals with his brother Wil.

After a couple of years Sam realised that to really break into the music industry then you have to do something different.

With a love of all music from dark drum n bass and dubstep to rock and indie, Sam had a real pallette to create his own "genre" so to speak.

He started off creating his own songs electronically, throwing in some samples and singing over the top - pretty quickly he realised that to have full control over what he does (especially live) he has to be able to create the sounds himself.

Sam came across the idea of hooking up a mic to an effects pedal (instead of a guitar) and using his voice to create the beat, bassline, melodies and vocals. From these effects, he creates a song live infront of your eyes using a loop station to do so and then sings/freestyles/mc's over the top.

To quote our own review when promoting Sam -

"Sam is a refreshing insight into how a spark of creativity and a wonderful imagination can lead to a fascinating performance inspiring all the senses."

After a lot of practice and hours perfecting his own effects Sam felt it was time to give it a go live on stage. At the end of 2010 Sam took to the stage in the form of Open Mic's at the Indi Bar and The Rosemount, very quickly this resulting in Sam being booked for gigs at The Bakery, The Rosemount, Mojo's and The Bird quickly making a name for himself around town.

Early 2011 saw Sam win "The Path to Laneway Competition" held at Rosemount and subsequently playing at the festival attracting an early crowd.

After being nominated for in the WAMI Awards for Favourite Newcomer alongside The Growl, SanCisco and Seams, Sam’s support slots this year for Brow Horn Orchestra @ Mojo's, Mickey Avalon @ Villa, Sancisco @ East End Bar and a return to Villa to support The Magnificents featuring Rahzel are making "Sam Perry" an industry name.
