"I would like to introduce Sam. She is a love child. Born with the face of many generations. Her eyes look like they have lived a million years. Looking at her, she held the essence of many past family members. Her temperament was joyful, giddy, bubbly. As a baby she bounced about with a smile and a light around her. Even as a youngster appreciated being alive. She was and remains a small but mighty spiritual being. Not a flawless childhood, she overcame obstacles, and always and forever marches to the beat of her own drum. She is a soul unfiltered by social expectations. Sam has the courage to take incredible chances. Intense enough to see through you. Tuned into the heartbeat of the earth. Connected to those she loves. She found music with a child’s guitar, and taught herself how to play. Writing and singing, she gave me many hours of following me around the house singing. “Mom! I have a song to play for you!” I hope I never stop hearing that. Through her music, you can feel her heart as it lives, beats, breaks, succeeds, and triumphs. I was shocked the first time I heard her really sing. It was at a talent show. I could feel her voice because there was nothing transparent or faddish about it. She creates music that is a perfect reflection of herself: real, raw, fun, deep, heartbreaking, strong, powerful, painful, hopeful, enlightened. That is our Sam. A human being that believes in all the right things, in and out of this world. I am truly thankful to know Samantha."
