Sandbox Rebel

Sandbox Rebel

 Van Nuys, California, USA
BandAlternativeRock

Sounds like Nirvana, Muse, Silversun Pickups and The Beatles backing Elliot Smith and Eminem with Jack Johnson moods. Hip Hop vocals sit on top of a rock band and then blend back into alt rock vocal hooks.

Biography

Sandbox Rebel is the performing pseudonym for Shane Sweet. Shane Sweet had toured nationally as a lead guitarist and singer songwriter for Glass Fence, recording an EP entitled "New Order of the Ages," before lending his talents to the Music by Mayflower Project Produced by Grammy Award Winner David Weisberg. It was in late 2009 that Shane Sweet decided to embark on the solo project that is Sandbox Rebel. The first release, "Songs for Friends, Family, and the Times," is an experiment in performance as all pieces are performed by Shane, and an experiment in style as alt rock is merged with dance, hip-hop, and classical while being operatic in the use of storyline, characters, and a thread throughout the record further highlighted by cinematic sound scaping.

Lyrics

A Song for Logan, Daniel, and Derek

Written By: Shane Sweet

In the winter I can't wait 'til it's warm
But in the dead of summer, can't wait 'til it pours
Now just hold the frame 'til your shadows on the tape
And the date and the time and place

You don't know the way the wind blows
And you don't see what I see do you?
You don't know the way it all goes down to the ground
If so then tell the crowd

What good is a forest if it's fenced?
I found that out one day with some friends
When we took a frame without our silhouettes
That day we looked through a different lens

Repeat Chorus

You won't leave here until you've tried a piece of everything you want and
more
Or until you find you're not what you thought
You won't leave here until you've tried a piece of everything you want and
more
Or until you find you're not good enough

A Song for Glen

Written By: Shane Sweet

We don't wanna be too loud
Or they'll shut this whole thing down
I see the moon, see the stars, see my friends and see their cars
And more will be on their way
But no one gets to go upstairs
Beyond that man I couldn't care
Take the things that we do that we're not supposed to
And put them all in the back

And you believe it so
You must need it you don't
It follows you now, everywhere you go

Kickback into a little crowd
And all that goes it comes around
If there's things that you do that you wouldn't tell the group
You better hide it behind your back
Because someone always falls in love
That someone doesn't think enough
Between the smoke and the clouds and enough alcohol to drown
What did you really think?

Repeat Chorus

There's no end
There's no end
There's no end that we're headed to

Repeat Chorus

A Song for Hollis

Written By: Shane Sweet

You won't be it until you've had to try to leave it
That person who's had enough and you found it tough
But then again there's the other side, sometimes, some people have all the
luck
It's hard not to look into their eyes wanting everything they are
And everything they're not
I feel as if I'm staring straight into the sun

Then she sank her teeth in so deep
I never thought I'd like that bite and bleed
She said more with a sigh than I can speak with my mind
We did and we'll do it as if there's an end to time

Now sometimes leaving it can be the best thing
It beats being taken away, they're different but the same
Just one's more focused on the result, the pulse
Some people are heard to read
The one's that you think you know, they will surprise the most
That's just how it goes
I feel as if I'm staring straight into the sun

Repeat Chorus

A Song for Tomorrow

Written By: Shane Sweet

There are no straight lines 'nor have there ever been
Only circles that circle and circle and bend
Just like you know there's never been a black or white
We're all different shades of grey adding color through a life that
Some of can't draw some of us get wrong
Some of us claim that we never even saw
Passing through our eyes as we ran out of time
I don't know what happens next but the lines not mine to write so

You and I must leave this all behind
This ancient state of mind
This thought that
It's always better on the other side

We've questioned all the questions 'til we've questioned all that matters
There's no sense that we can make and nothing here it feels like answers
So I'll take another look at the fire and book tell you which direction
you can go to find the crook
And the day that he is found looking up or looking down
Paradise will leave the sky yes Hell will leave the ground
'Cuz if God can pull you down yes or push you around then gravity's the
closest thing to God that I have found so

Repeat Chorus

A Song for Mom and Dad

Written By: Shane Sweet

Giving is all I have
Taking is all I'll need
I'll do this until you're convinced you can love me still
And then I can do anything, Yes then I can do anything
Give up on all the time we've lost
From here on out our time's been bought
When Mom she tried to take herself yes I
Can say it left a little mark
Understatements spoken from the heart

So if you want it fast you put your pedal down to the floor
If you need it baby come on get some more
Because we're all, we're waiting for the day
When everything falls in place
Good times come to stay
But most of all we're waiting for
You to come along, join in on our mob
We can do this or that it doesn't matter it never has
We could just do anything, that gives us that familiar feeling

Counting dollars counting down the years
Playing on our hopes and fears
Don't cause a fight keep stability in mind
Especially at this fragile time
Like paper with a shredded spine

So if you want it fast you put your pedal down to the floor
If you need it baby come on get some more
Because we're all, we're waiting for the day
When everything falls in place
Good times come to stay
But most of all we're waiting for
Something that never was
But something that can be you could see you and me
What, that we never really mattered at all
Just go away now

So if you want it fast you put your pedal down to the floor
If you need it baby come on get some more
Because we're all, we're waiting for the day
When everything falls in place
Good times come to stay
But most of all we're waiting for
You to come along, join in on our mob
We can do this or that it doesn't matter it never has
We could just do anything, that gives us that familiar feeling

A Song for Yesterday

Written By: Shane Sweet

Tape it all the Rise and Fall
Of Rome now, it's home now, we all know how things catch up they do
The more they change the more that they just seem the same
We control our fates more than any space and time we ever knew

But you can leave aside
Candles filled with time
And all of that what's lost has been bought in you

Imagine this Atlantis is Los Angeles
It doesn't exist
A city of stars like golden streets are talk
What could it mean a city where wings had the stars at their feet
How could it be?
The Pantheon's the Boulevard for all

Repeat Chorus

A Song for Will

Written By: Shane Sweet

You take 'em when you're up
You take 'em when you're down
You take 'em while at home or out on the town
You need to be strong, you need to hold off
The higher you get the further will be the fall

Cross my heart hope like there's no tomorrow
And my fingers too grace is luck you can borrow from me
If you need it seize it

We all know life is short but it can be so long
Mainly when the choices you make are wrong
But don't you look back or at the things that you lack
You have everything you know that's a fact

Cross my heart hope like there's no tomorrow
And my fingers too grace is luck you can borrow from me
And you can cross my heart like there's no tomorrow
And I'll forgive you, grace is luck you can borrow from me

Things aren't the same somehow everything, everything's changed (Tell me how)
Things started changing the day you went away

So you take 'em when you're up
You take 'em when you're down
You take 'em while at home or out on the town
It can make life so long, or it can be gone
Out of sight and out of time just like this song

A Song for Me

Written By: Shane Sweet

We burnt a hundred matches on my mattress
We both did our best just to not get burned so
I'll try and match this the salt in your lashes
By doing my best to put some fire in my words

You don't know that you'll need it everyday
What you don't know is what I will never say
You see the light for what it is
I hear the things that get trapped in it

The pillows gone and the sheets are ashes
It won't be long before we torch the mattress
And it wouldn't be wrong if we'd keep at it
Burn down the whole place from the floor to the attic

You don't know that you'll need it everyday
What you don't know is what I will never say
You see the light for what it is
I hear the things that get trapped in it

Do, Re, Mi

Written By: Kurt Cobain

And If I may
And If I might
lie me down weeping

And If I say
What it's like
I might be dreaming

And If I may
What is light
So many times you see me
If you really really hear

Those years in his blond head
The phrase from his pocket
And Chains from the knowing lifelong dream

Do Re Mi X4

If I may
And If I might
wake me up and see me

And If I do
And If I like
Find me out and see

And If I'm made
Cold as ice
I might have to see me
Again if you really really hear

Been Raised in his soft care
Been Raised from his moment
And chains from his socket I will need

Do Re Mi X6

It must be good
It must be night
To Find me out of season

In their way
Just be quiet
Fall away and breed me

Yell or wail
And if I sigh
Seek me out of the TV

If I may
And if I might
A Golden gun to bleed me
If You really really hear me
Been Raised in this pocket
Erased from his moment
And chased from his owner in my teens

Do Re, Mi

A Song for the Enemies

Written By: Shane Sweet

This will hurt eventually it's just what people do
Or maybe it's the youth either way it's the truth
"Cuz it looks like as you get old you're just too tired to fight fire with
fire
Get caught up in desire
It has you look the fool now in everything you do
It caught ahold of you now you're a liar too
Or maybe you just know more not to keep score what to fight for and more
things I don't know so I won't go and indulge you

So This song was written in a Motel 6 stairwell in Austin, TX after about
3 months on the road with a band in a van. It is not about external
enemies as much as it's about the enemies we create in ourselves. How
they lead us to people and places. So much of hip hop to is putting your
best foot forwad and showing one's strengths I just thought it'd be fun to
do a hip hop song exposing my bad sides, weaknesses, paranoias, and
overall ignorance.

Farewell to livin' out of motels
Dawn is the reaper hey kid God's in the speaker and He'll call
Right before the Fall

The principles of the universe are born in my mind
They're born all the time yep and outta design
But tonight we're here to talk about the other guy
That refuses to die and might just be right
But you know he just hasn't been yet
He deals in regret yep and boy you can bet
He wears glasses as he's sitting at the table
So a sample of a gamble's left you feeling unstable
A buy in has you tryin' what did you need him for
And when yo have nothing left he'll make a left for the door
'Cuz to have a friend who puts a bend in everything you do
Is to have someone to lose yep with all their attitude
And if he could just shut up for a second or two
You know I wouldn't have to do yeah what I'm about to do yeah
