Bio

Sandra Kolstad started out as a classical pianist. She studied with the famous norwegian composer and pianist Wolfgang Plagge, and she wanted to become a concert pianist. But she changed her mind. Age 24, Sandra Kolstad played her first solo show, with her own songs. There was little doubt that there was something special emerging on the norwegian scene. Since that first concert in Oslo, the word spread: There was a new voice to be heard, a new way of making and performing music to be seen. Kolstad was after a short time played on national radio, played some of the biggest stages in Norway, and also did concerts in Germany, France, Sweden and Denmark.

Now, less than two years later, she has established a name as one of the most important and innovative norwegian musicians of today. Always surprising, both musically and visualwise, Sandra Kolstad keeps impressing new audiences. With her spectacular soundscapes, Sandra Kolstad is often referred to as an interesting sound artist just as much as a popular pop musician. No matter what they say, one thing is for sure: They dance. They are left in awe. And they want more.

Sandra Kolstad is currently based in Berlin, where she lives and composes. She is at the same time recording her debut album in Oslo. The album is produced by herself, Petter Eldh (Schneeweiss und Rosenrot, Django Bates) and Peter Baden (Hanne Hukkelberg, Mungolian Jetset). Sandra Kolstad is already booked for Norways most important music festival, Øyafestivalen 2011.
