"Class and Spirit"

“Sandra brought class, spirit and artistic inspiration to our event. Her love and passion for music shine through in her performance, which allows the audience to relax and feel the music.”

- David Syre, CEO, Trillium Corp.

"The Channeling of Nina Simone"

Sandra Locklear is one of those musicians who defiantely eludes classification .... Locklear varied her music selections from ballads to work songs and from playfully feisty to intensely passionate .... "House of the Rising Sun" was breathtaking ... one of her original compositions. "Dark Eyes" slides along the borders of jazz, blues, Latin and rock-ballad territories but never chooses a country. When Locklear sings "your dark eyes melt my soul and take me to a place that's deep and warm," her voice turns up the heat, sweeping you uncontrollably to that very place."

"Sandra - A Touch of Class"

"Sandra leaves little doubt that her business is music. From that moment on, she is lost in it. She plays expertly and sings effortlessly ... sometimes she lets her fingers do all the work, other times, her vocal power takes over ... there's that quiet dignity about her, that inner strength that all of us seek." - The News-Advertiser

"Local Performer Appears"

" ... Piano and vocals in a warm, folk-jazz vein ... " - The Seattle Times

"Linda Allen Review"

"Your musicianship is amazing ... but what moves me most is the words ... you are, indeed, on a journey, and you bring us all along." - Linda Allen

"EMP Goddess Rising CD Review"

"Rockin! A world-class production ... energetic, melodic pop-rock with jazz, folk and Latin elements ... killer musicianship, great graphics!" - Neil Skok

"Girl Gone Jazz Review"

"You are a great vocalist, a fine pianist, and a wonderful writer. The writing is excellent poetry in its own right on both albums. "Girl Gone Jazz" ... is a quantum leap in the annals of your ability. Each and every song is GREAT. Your talent has grown enormously ... your artistry has been honed into a fine skill: no hesitation anywhere, no wavering of the notes, no mistakes or slip ups that most ears could not detect anyway, and certainly a mellowness that shines through exactly when it is needed." - Jack Titus

“Music is a language of the human spirit. I can’t imagine a world without music and love lifting people up through the power of song!” - Sandra.

Canadian pianist-singer and songwriter Sandra Locklear pairs a rich alto voice with jazz piano stylings refined over many years of playing venues in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Canada and Europe. With intuitive ease and passionate virtuosity, she sets a fresh standard full of vitality and soul with her own sure vision and Inner Circle band.

Shimmering with sensuality and the voice of experience, Sandra writes her own music and performs covers. She published 11 of her original songs on her breakout CD, "Goddess Rising," on her own label in 2000. On "Girl Gone Jazz", Sandra's latest CD, she returns to her jazz roots to present an elegant collection of fresh swinging standards, sexy bossa novas and riveting ballads, with three more of her original songs that dance and shine from track to track.

Like two of her inspirations, Shirley Horn and Nina Simone, Sandra is both musician and singer with a natural gift for connecting with her audiences. With a technical proficiency honed since she took her first piano lesson, “Sandra leaves little doubt that her business is music. She plays expertly and sings effortlessly,” comments British Columbia music critic Linda Vollrath. As a songwriter she wraps jazz like harmonic and melodic sensibilities around tender and forthright feminine observations on life with a kind of earthy commentary and raw emotion that lets you know she's been there.

The unconventional road this musician travels only makes her music more resonant with the times. Sandra’s musical roots began at age 7 with weekly keyboard lessons with her lifelong mentor. By middle school she was performing at weddings, fashion shows and church. She won Yamaha's Young Artists regional organ in Seattle during high school and was sent on to compete in Carmel, CA. A year studying jazz organ in San Francisco inspired her to enroll in a college music program back in Washington State.

Unable to resist the lure of the road, Sandra soon accepted an offer to tour with a dance quartet. Between performing regionally and overseas with two bands and as a solo artist-single parent, Sandra earned music degrees Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude. To satisfy her soul, she then went to Africa to study the roots of jazz with the internationally acclaimed Sierra Leone National Dance Troupe.

Currently based out of Seattle, Sandra is available for bookings either as a solo singer-pianist or with her group Inner Circle, accomplished jazz artists and studio musicians from both the regional and national recording scene.
