 Tampa, Florida, USA
BandPopAdult Contemporary

I'm a songwriter who can write in a variety of genres. After years in commercial radio, I developed a great appreciation (and a pretty good ear) for what made a song "work".

Biography

I think I was always a musician, even when I wasn't actively performing. After stints in radio and public relations, I came back to what I love most; music. My music collection runs the gamut from Peggy Lee to Queen Latifa; from the Beatles to the Strokes; from Patsy Cline to Diana Krall.

Life All Over

Written By: Sandra Palmer

Life All Over

If you could live your life all over
What would you regret
Would your remorse make any difference
Would you just as soon forget
I’d like to think that I’d be sincere
Stronger and kinder, too
But if I’m honest with myself
An apology’s the best I could do

(Chorus)
It just goes to show
We are who we are
Nuture and nature decree
If our time was given back to us
Could we change who we were to be

If you could live your life all over
What would you repair
Would you really live in the moment
Would you be that self-aware
I’d like to think that I’d be better
Smarter and nicer, too
But if I’m honest with myself
I’d react to the same old cues

(Chorus)

If you knew then
What you know now
What would you stand to gain
If you think about it
For just a moment
Life and time are the same
They’re the same

If you could live your life all over
What would you erase
In its absence would you lose experience
That you could never replace
I’d like to think that I’d be grateful
Loving and wiser, too
But if I’m honest with myself
My mistakes would all be brand new

Rocks In My Pockets

Written By: Sandra Palmer

Here on the bank of the river
The sight of the other side is clear
Maybe I’ll wade in slowly
Or dive right in to kill my fear

(CH)
I might have rocks in my pockets
I might have lead in my shoes
I might have rocks in my pockets
Swim to win or sink to lose

I can swim across the current
I’ve been in rivers deep and wide
Nothing and no one’s gonna keep me
From what I want on the other side

(CH)

I can have it if I want it
It all depends on just how bad
And I’d say I’m more than willing
To run the risk of being had

Bridge
I’ll get there
You’ll be there too
It’s not worth having
If I don’t have it with you

Dancin' Again

Written By: Sandra Palmer

Now that you’re back home
We will go dancing again
We’ll close our eyes
And smile as the music begins

You will hold me close
I’ll get lost in your arms
Just like when we met
I’ll give in to your charms

Now that you’re back home
I can rest easy at last
The fears that kept me awake
Are all in the past

You will hold me close
I’ll get lost in your arms
We will dance again
I’ll give in to your charms

You may not be
How I remember you
But I prayed for this day
For so long

And now you’ve returned
So different yet still the same
And I wonder
If I’ll be as strong

December

Written By: Sandra Palmer

Thought I saw an angel falling
Turned out to be a star
Thought I should wish for something
Then I remembered how things are

(chorus)
If wishes were snowflakes
If dreams would come true
It would always be December
and I’d spend it with you

Thought I heard a bluebird calling
Turned out to be a crow
Thought I should know the difference
Then I remembered what I know

(chorus)

(bridge)
In December
We’d stay warm inside
In December
We’d take the cold in stride

Thought I had a carefree feeling
Turned out the be the wine
Thought I oughta know much better
But it’s hard to tow the line
(Chorus)

Any Time Now

Written By: Sandra Palmer

It’s kind of funny
The time I couldn’t take for us
I have plenty of now
I didn’t understand
That love can move on
When it’s not welcome
And I didn’t know how

(Chorus)
Any time now
Any time now
Any time now I’ll be all right
Any time now
Any time now
Any time now just not tonight

It’s hard to believe
That it’s been years
Since you called it quits
Waiting on me
I’ll always remember
The very moment
When it finally sunk in
How alone I was about to be

And now our time has past
And it’s so hard to accept
I know nothing ever lasts
Just my memories and regret

I’d give anything
To have had a life with you
During the time
That passed me by
I’d do anything
Just to surround you
With all of my love
But I know it’s useless to try

Lovely Day

Written By: Sandra Palmer

Got up late
Nowhere to be
The Sunday paper
Barely read

You fixed the eggs
I fed the dog
We saw no need
To plan ahead

Breakfast cooking
Sounds of laughter
No one looking
No one cleaned up after

And I believe that
In almost every way
It was such a lovely day

The afternoon
Awash in sun
The living room
All shades of gold

Great conversation
On the state of the world
Miles Davis
On the stereo

Twilight toasted
With a glass of wine
The local take out
Place would do just fine

And I believe that
In almost every way
It was such a lovely day

If only we could save this day
In a bottle or a jar
We could open it and live it again
And be just the same as we are

Come And Be A Fool With Me

Written By: Sandra Palmer

They say there’s no fool like an old fool
He and his money will soon part
Now I don’t qualify as old school
I love a cynic with a heart

(Chorus) Come and be a fool with me
Come and be a fool with me
Deny expectation
Defy explanation
And come and be a fool with me

There’s a culture of caution
That likes to force a guarantee
But if you apply it to love
Then I must beg to disagree

Lovers take a leap of faith
That’s what lovers do
The payoff far exceeds the risk
And that’s why I’m asking you ..to –

(Chorus)

I think you’re getting the idea
Nothing ventured nothing gained
Logic doesn’t have a place here
This force cannot be explained

Chorus:

Throwaway Woman

Written By: Sandra Palmer

I was at the grocery store
You’d probably know the name
One stop shopping round the clock
A big national chain
There among beans and corn
An old woman stole a glance
As she shoved a can of tuna
In the pocket of her pants

When she saw that I had seen her
She seemed frozen where she stood
Then she looked at me and whispered
“Can’t always do what we should
And who are you to judge me
You’ve never had to be afraid
How can you begrudge me
A life that I never made”
And she said

Guess I’m a throwaway woman
I’ve done the best that I could
God saw me too you know
And God believes I’m good

I got home from work in time
Caught the evening news
Poured myself a glass of wine
Sat down and kicked off my shoes
A bewildered young woman
Appeared upon the screen
Barefoot and handcuffed
A Hooters tee shirt and old jeans

The cops said while she took a nap
Her child played with fire
He’d go into foster care
It’s what the law required
As she was led away
she sobbed she wasn’t bad
She’d worked 2 shifts today
And the boy didn’t have a dad
And she said
(Chorus)
Bridge
All the throwaway women
Trade their mistakes for their lives
They must have someone somewhere
These moms, daughters, sisters and wives

Guess they’re throwaway women
They’ve done the best that they could
God sees them too, you know
And God believes they’re good

Wide Awake

Written By: Sandra Palmer

Every night I’m kissing you in my dreams
don’t need a doctor to know what that means
so bad don’t wanna go to sleep
Tortured by the promises I can’t keep

Sometimes I’m so weak
I forget that I’m strong
And when I remember
I know that it’s wrong
Sometimes the shame
Is too much to take
While everyone sleeps
I’m wide awake

Every night I’m thinkin about how it could be
You’d be right here lying next to me
I get hot – toss the covers away
These fantasies follow me through my day

Why can’t I just leave this alone
This torment is something I’ve never known

Tonight I know you‘re gonna be in my bed
I won’t tell a soul what’s going on in my head
I’ll drink some wine for what good it might do
To fall asleep and make love with you
