Two musicians are better than one. God save the world from mediocrity. When you add talents together so that they are cohesive and somehow whole, you can achieve wonderful things, wonderful pieces of music, environments of sound.
Sans Ensemble makes music in a variety of ways. There are guitars ,both acoustic and electric, sometimes played for entire tracks, sometimes small loops that reappear. There are drums from skins both natural and synthetic. The sound can also be synthetic or a warm and wistful saxophone - Sans Ensemble is all these things.
In Sans Ensemble, Duncan Sweeney and Paul Dengate put their ideas together – the sum of the parts is more than one. Themes can be measured and menacing - listen to “The Deal” - or slow and serene - “Surf Ranch” & “Ice”. Like many musicians their souls are stirred by a beautiful wave or a perfect day. Each of them would like to see more fun and less pain throughout our world – hopefully this album is testament to that.
These musical ideas are their feelings, their thoughts, aspects of this world seen through musical eyes – ambient soul. Whatever you call it, their hearts are in the right place… and they can play in time … 1 2 3 4 and..
