JUST IMAGINE…
You're in a dark room...all you can hear is the haunting sounds of melodic Indian chanting, while a scent of exotic ritual incense teases your senses. Suddenly a single spotlight on a girl, dressed in a dazzling Indian infused rock style. She is singing an enchanting melody, a song called Sunshower, while moving in a graceful Bollywood style. And just as you settle into her hypnotising voice, full stage lights appear and a 4-piece professional rock band, wearing colourful Indian garments, emerges playing a solid emphatic rock sound.
THIS IS OM SANTHI
A graduate of Indian classical dance by age 12, Sydney born Santhi was already a seasoned performer in Australia, Asia and India. By 13, her passion for various musical instruments and genres, and her sensitivity to life experiences and issues, became evident as she began composing songs on piano and guitar. After three years of undergraduate medicine, Santhi decided to defy the family tradition and forego her studies to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a singer/songwriter and sharing her music with the world. It was this daring decision that landed her in the entertainment capital of the world...London.
London revealed a roller coaster of opportunities and experiences for Santhi from musical theatre to television to Bollywood. The highlight was performing and writing with the renowned pioneers of Indian fusion music, JOI (signed to Real World Records), who treated Santhi to the dream of touring around the UK, Europe and India to massive crowds as a singer and dancer. However this was not enough for the songwriter who yearned to get back to the roots of live rock music, which London could not deliver, and share her life experiences through her own acoustic style. So Santhi returned to Australia, her homeland of live music, to team up with former Sony producer, Simon Tonx. On September 14th, 2006, Santhi released her debut album, Sunshower that displays a variety of pop rock genres with a hint of ethnic fusion. Her lyrics concentrate on elements that affect today’s society such as abuse, suicide, war, love, family and relationships.
Santhi’s album is currently being sold around the world on her website, www.santhi.net, as well as on Tower Records, Cdbaby, iMusicStage, Apple iTunes and MusicNet. It is also being sold at SO Music. She has so far sold around 300 copies worldwide.
Santhi is currently performing around Sydney with her band of ultra-professional musicians including Simon Tonx, Tim Dutton and Stuart Gillies who have supported other well-known artists such as Diana Anaid, Craig Mclachlan, Brett Garsed (John Farnham), David Moyce (Air Supply), Rob Wilson and Charlie Chan.
She has played to huge crowds at the Marquee, Annandale Hotel, Vic On The Park, Excelsior, and the Cat and Fiddle. She has also played an acoustic set at Government House in aid of Suicide Prevention Australia and most recently in Martin Place and Sydney Square for the Amnesty International Van Nguyen campaign. Santhi was also invited to Chennai to compose and perform the theme song for the Indian Turf Invitation Cup.
Never before has the music industry seen an Indian rocker until now!!!
