"2 Rabbis, 2 Styles - New Jewish Music"

Sappir - a newly formed music group that is taking Jewish world music to the next level.

The newly formed band Sappir is taking Jewish music in a new direction.

Formed by Danny Bergson and Mitchell Goodman, Sappir explores Jewish melodies, fusing together many different genres including Rock, Pop, Jazz and Acoustic. The result is music that is both inspiring and accessible to people of all backgrounds. “Music has always been our passion. We just want to touch as many people as we can” they say.

The duo began playing small gigs with Danny singing and on acoustic guitar, and Mitchell on electric and acoustic guitars. Things very quickly took off from there. Every gig they played the audience would double, as they played bigger and bigger venues. After a sell-out concert in Manchester’s Sale Waterside Theater the idea of an album was aired and Sappir was born.

Although both qualified Rabbis, they actually come from very different musical backgrounds. Danny is a trained Cantor, singing in the Synagogue and other Jewish events. He has had extensive operatic training over the past 15 years (including tutors from Royal Northern College of Music and Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama).

Mitchell on the other hand has a strong background in guitar performance, teaching and session work. He specializes in melodic rock and is at home in nearly every guitar genre. He attended the Guitar Institute of Technology London where he quickly became known for his virtuoso abilities, developing a busy roster of music students in London and abroad.

Benjamin Wiltshire is a British musician, singer, composer and recording engineer. Ben studied Popular Music & Recording at Salford University where he studied under bassist Ollie Collins. Ben has contributed to dozens of albums as a session musician and plays live concerts supporting the likes of Humphrey Littleton, Tony Bennett, Embrace and others.

Ben Hirsch is a British drummer and percussionist with over 14 years of experience. Having trained under Dougie Black (who features on “Echoes”), Ben went on to perform as a session musician on a number of studio recordings and play many concerts. - israelnationalnews.com

"Jewish music with universal appeal"

Jewish Music with a universal appeal

What do you get when two music loving Rabbis spend four years making an album together?
The answer is an album that combines Jewish melodies, Hebrew lyrics and a variety of musical genres including Pop, Jazz, Latin and Rock.

Echoes is the debut album of Sappir - which is made up of Pinner Synagogue's Rabbi Danny Bergson and Manchester-based Rabbi Mitchell Goodman. It took four years to record and utilise the skills of a range of musicians including a brass band, a harpist and a string quartet.

Rabbi Bergson a father of four, who spent several years based in Glasgow before moving to Pinner is a passionate musician describing music as "his fuel". he said "I can't live without music. It touches the deepest part of me".
Rabbi Bergson has been playing guitar for more than 15 years. he has spent many years training his voice classically and continues to train in Opera and traditional Cantorial music.

Several years ago he began playing small gigs with a fellow Rabbi, Mitchell Goodman, and Sappir was formed. the pair soon gathered a strong following and after a sell out gig at Manchester's Sale Waterside they decided to create an album together.

The album has been praised for its originality and high production values and has attracted admirers from around the world.

Rabbi Bergson said: "As we are both full time rabbis it was difficult to find the time. We basically used up all our holiday time making the album - I am lucky I have an understanding wife."

"but we realised it is possible to make an album which is 100 per cent Jewish yet also completely universal. The feedback has been extremely positive."

They have worked with some of the best in the music industry (particularly Blueprint Studios) and have created a debut album that promises to deliver a sonic punch!

He specialises in melodic rock and is at home in pretty much every guitar genre going! He attended the Guitar Institute of Technology London where he quickly became known for his virtuoso abilities developing a busy roster of music students in London and abroad.

Together their sound is fresh and evocative. Their debut album “Echoes” brilliantly reflects the rich musical backgrounds and influences of both artists and presents a new, exciting sound to light up the genre!
