Sara Fotros is a Daf player who has worked with traditional and contemporary persian music. Her familiarity with these disciplines has enabled her to work with fusion of many styles. She appeals her instincts and emotions in equal measures to her performance hence an engaging audience.

Biography

Sara Fotros

Was born in 1981. She started learning the Tonbak , the Persian goblet drum at the age of sixteen. After a year, she started learing the daf, the Kurdish frame drum. She later did her BSc degree in Electrical Engineering and alongside her studies she continued taking music lessons. She has been playing with different ensembles in Iran, Sweden, Germany, Dubai, Austria, Slovakia, India and Canada. Music Bands such as Isfahan National Orchestra, Hagh-Jouyan, Ghazal, Rohab, Shur-Angiz, Irandokht, Fear of the forest( An English folk Music band), venge dur( A kurdish band in London), Ghazal, Eurosia(Classic Symphony Orchestra, London) and Ashtee. In 2000, she got the Music-teaching certificate and has been teaching the daf to many students since then.
In 2006, she made her own percussion ensemble associated with her students and composed rhythmic pieces based on Kurdish, Persian, and fusion music.
She won the first place in the daf player's competition in 2008, held in Iranian Kurdistan ( Sanandaj, jashnvareh daf navazan). she studied music at Morley college, where she was chosen to teach rhythm and Daf to other students.
