Sarah Scriver

Sarah Scriver, a 16 year old singer-songwriter from Ottawa, has an inspirational story to tell. Her voice is pure, her melodies are contagious, and her songs will strike a chord within your heart. Sarah has had to deal with more adversity in her young life than most people have to go through in their lifetimes.  Yet, somehow, her passion for music has only grown stronger. Sarah’s sophomore release, set for June 2016, called Mind over Matter, is an E.P. that takes you through the painful journey that has been her reality for the past 2 years. “Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and hope.”  Relentless bullying caused Sarah to suffer several concussions; concussions so severe that Sarah suffered temporary amnesia as a result.  She lost the memories from the previous 6 months of her life.  To make matters worse, Sarah also developed a seizure disorder as the result of the physical and emotional trauma she had endured.  The culmination of all these events forced Sarah to be removed from school to heal, and as a means of salvation from the constant harassment from bullies at school. Amazingly, while bearing the weight of all this pain, music became her strength.

                Sarah took this opportunity to perfect her craft, song writing.  Turning to the healing powers of her Guitar and her piano, Sarah began to restore her spirit through her music. The name of the new EP, Mind over Matter, “is a mantra I’ve lived by since I was a little girl.”, She said,  “It’s gotten me through the hardest and most damaging parts of my life.  It’s allowed me to breath, push my head up, roll my shoulders back and say ‘I can do this’.”  The strength of her spirit, the fragility of her soul, and the emotion in her words will carry you through her journey of self discovery and triumph over adverity.

                Sarah knows pain, but she also knows hope.  In her own words: “I want my music to reach people who are going through their own pain.  If I can be the strength for one person to hold on, then I have done what I have set out to do.  I found my strength, I want to help others find theirs.”  Bullying is a problem in our society and Sarah wants her music to be part of the change.

                Through her music career, Sarah has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with acts like The Sam Roberts Band and July Talk.  With dozens of live performances under her belt, Sarah has developed into a seasoned professional at the young age of 16. In Sarah’s music, elements of her influences like Adelle, Birdy, Ed Sheeran, and Lord can be heard and felt.

                2016 will be an exciting year for Sarah with several television appearances, radio interviews, a summer tour, and several festival performances in the works in support of her new EP Mind over Matter.  Sarah wants her music to act as a beacon of hope for others who are battling their own demons.  Bullying, depression, anxiety, loneliness; “you’re not alone.” There is Hope, there is happiness, there is light.
