Just the Weather (LP, 2009)

"Sarah & Mike" is a 3-person Folk/Acoustic-rock/Alternative group from Saskatoon, SK. With the recent addition of a full-time drummer/percussionist, they've mixed energetic, up-beat arrangements with their earlier acoustic-folk style, while still focusing on thought provoking lyrics and catchy melodies. Sarah Couture and Michael Stankowski were both born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and have been involved with music all their lives. They first met in September 2008 when a mutual friend hosted a musical event and invited each of them to be members of the 8-piece band that the evening would require. Afterwards, they continued jamming together for several weeks and eventually decided to perform under the name "Sarah & Mike".

As a duo, Michael and Sarah performed with acoustic guitars around Saskatoon in coffee shops, restaurants, open-mic nights and at the local Farmers' Market. After acquiring some experience performing together they decided to do a small recording project, which grew into their first album "Just the Weather". Doing every step of the recording themselves (except the final mastering) in a small, makeshift home studio allowed them to produce a unique sounding record reminiscent of their early coffee shop performances.

Shortly after finishing the CD, Sarah and Mike invited drummer Justin Alisauskas to perform with them for a couple of shows including Taste of Saskatchewan, the Saskatoon Fringe Festival and the Spadina Freehouse. Justin has recently become a permanent member of the band playing drum kit and other percussion instruments.

The majority of the songs that "Sarah & Mike" perform are originals that could be placed in the folk, acoustic-rock or alternative genre. The focus is placed on the lyrics, which often tell stories based on life experiences of all kinds told from different points of view. The songs are primarily driven by acoustic guitar, backed up with a variety of instruments such as bass, drums, harmonica, light percussion and more.
