Sarah Aubrey and The Audiovisual Club and her forty minute gig leaves me feeling bi-polar. But it’s a good thing. An indication of a fine songwriter is a live set revealing a range of windows and doors that one can open and shut. She kept the crowd wanting more with her fresh and sultry folk fused rock and is one of those frustrating people who make you feel you’re taking life sitting down. I wonder how she finds the time to catch her breath. Sarah, a NIDA graduate and theatre actor with an established voice over career, effectively time manages to write songs and get it together with a band. Sigh. Sometimes I can lie in bed till lunch thinking of why I should get up. Her band of steel guitar, bass, cello, drums and Sarah on vocals/amplified acoustic guitar, execute a fine array of songs from the buoyantly cheerful and beautiful to the melancholy loneliness of sweet yearnings. She may be diminutive but she cuts it big on stage. She’s similar in the vein of Clare Bowditch with a charming and honest stage presence, arming herself with songs carrying great weight regarding relationships and the drama of life. But she displays it with far more sass and impish attitude. She’s the type who needs more exposure to inspire other gals to pick up a guitar and just get on out there defying any boys club mentality or knee jerk misogyny that can discourage female musicians from time to time.

Aubrey's songs have been described as when Nick Drake meets Angie Hart - so I imagine their will be lots of tender tales of love gone wrong - with very poetic sensibilities but sporting a might fine hook and a chorus that kicks your butt.
