The truth has a sound, and you will hear it in the beautiful and powerful voice of a young girl named Sara Haze.

Biography

Every step of the way in singer-songwriter Sara Haze’s musical life has led to her current success. Influenced vocally, lyrically and musically by Sarah McLachlan, Joss Stone, Jewel, or Etta James and Aretha Franklin, Sara Haze delivers her words and music in a powerful and emotional voice. From the time Sara could talk, she learned how to sing. Growing up in a musical family, at an early age Sara practiced vocal exercises with her mother and by the age of four started playing the piano. A few years later Sara was singing lead in church. As writing became a way to avoid the teenage pitfalls, her poetry and journal entries turned into songs, and Sara found, “That process was extremely therapeutic.”

Sara was immediately noticed when she started singing Etta and Aretha covers in clubs and when she added her songs to the mix, the rest quickly fell in place. Sara has since had numerous song placements in TV including on such shows as The Young & The Restless, One Life To Live, One Ocean View, and the Oxygen hit Bad Girls Club with a performance cameo on two episodes with country singer-songwriter Kerry Harvick. In addition Sara sang the theme song on one season of The Simple Life. Always honing her songwriting skills, Sara started working with songwriter/producers Pam Reswick and Nathan Meckel (Jo Dee Messina) of Spin Box Club. PEN Music Group Inc. took an interest and introduced Sara to Elicit Music’s production/songwriting team Heather Holley and Rob Hoffman (Christina Aguilera, Quincy Jones, Sheryl Crow), and she recently recorded three masters with them. She won the 2007 Pump Audio Song Submission Contest and performed at the ASCAP I Create Music Expo to a crowd of 1200 where she was a finalist with her song “Dust From Stars.” In May 2007 PEN Music Group, Inc. signed Sara Haze to a Licensing & Administration deal. In the summer of 2007 Sara will start writing songs with 5-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer Glen Ballard.

Just shy of 18, Sara’s forthcoming self-released debut CD entitled The Ladder brings it all together and is an impressive recording. The songs at times reflecting eventual self-discovery (“Now I Understand”), ups and downs of relationships, and outright cries (“The Big Lie”) to reflective and dreamy (“Dust From Stars,” “Balloon”) or the wistful call of the road (“Counting Down The Days”). To be released this summer, The Ladder will feature songs co-written with E.B. Fraley, Spin Box Club and Elicit Music.

In support of the CD Sara Haze will play dates around the country including, in Denver at the Microsoft Convention (July), in Nashville at The Bluebird Cafe, and a live radio broadcast from Cadillac Ranch in September. Sara Haze’s band features: EB Fraley and Justin Wright on guitar, Axel Clark on drums and percussion, Andy Zacharias on bass and Sara on piano.

THE BIG LIE

Written By: HAZE, ATKINSON, WOECKENER, HOLLY

I HAVE A SECRET
IT’S HAUNTING ME
SOMETIMES I WANNA TELL YOU
I’M NOT WHAT I SEEM
IT BREAKS MY HEART
WHEN I LOOK IN YOUR EYES
YOU SEE ME SMILE
BUT I’M ALONE INSIDE

HAPPINESS DEPENDS ON
THE SILENCE I KEEP
I KNOW THAT I SHOULD TELL YOU
BUT CAN’T BRING MYSELF TO SPEAK
I’M SO DISGUISED
I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S TRUE
IT KILLS ME WHEN I SEE WHAT IT DOES TO YOU

IT’S A BIG BIG LIE
YOU'RE ABOUT TO SEE THROUGH
AND I DON’T KNOW WHY
IT’S ALL I CAN DO
IT’S A BIG BIG LIE
I’M HIDING FROM YOU
I DON’T LOVE MYSELF
SO HOW CAN I LOVE YOU
HOW CAN I LOVE YOU

I TOSS AND TURN
YEAH I CAN’T SLEEP
WHY AM I SO LONELY
YOUR RIGHT NEXT TO ME
IT’S BUILDING UP INSIDE ME
I CAN HARDLY BREATHE
YOU’RE LYING THERE SO PEACEFUL
I JUST WANNA SCREAM

IT’S A BIG BIG LIE
YOU'RE ABOUT TO SEE THROUGH
AND I DON’T KNOW WHY
IT’S ALL I CAN DO
IT’S A BIG BIG LIE
I’M HIDING FROM YOU
I DON’T LOVE MYSELF
SO HOW CAN I LOVE YOU
HOW CAN I LOVE YOU

I KEEP THINKING THAT YOU'RE GONNA HEAR IT
IN THE WORDS THAT I DON’T SAY
SOMEONE TELL ME HOW LONG, OH HOW LONG
CAN I LIVE MY LIFE THIS WAY

YOU'RE ABOUT TO SEE THROUGH
I DON’T WHY
BUT ALL I CAN DO

IS LIE
I DON’T WHY
IT’S ALL I CAN DO
IT’S A BIG BIG LIE
I’M HIDING FROM YOU
I DON’T LOVE MYSELF YET
SO HOW CAN I LOVE YOU
HOW CAN I LOVE YOU

THE BORDER

Written By: HAZE, FRALEY

GOTTA GET AWAY FROM THE BORDER
THERE’S TOO MANY MEMORIES HERE
AND ALL THE THINGS THAT I USED TO LOVE
BECAME EVERYTHING I FEAR
AND I WANNA RECOGNISE
BUT I JUST DON’T THINK IT’S YOU
CUZ EVERY TIME I LOOK INTO YOUR EYES
I SWEAR I CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH

SO I RUN AND I RUN
JUST TO FIND I’M STANDING STILL
CUZ I’M TRYING TO MOVE
WITHOUT BREAKING ANY SHELLS
AND I’M FROZEN IN THIS STATE
TRYING NOT TO CROSS THE LINE
BUT I GUESS IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TIME
TILL I CROSS THE BORDER LINE

THE WATER TASTES LIKE POISON
THE AIR IS SO HARD TO BREATHE
AND THE SKIN I’M IN IS STARTING TO DRIVE ME CRAZY
I GOTTA GET AWAY FROM ME

SO I RUN AND I RUN
JUST TO FIND I’M STANDING STILL
CUZ I’M TRYING TO MOVE
WITHOUT BREAKING ANY SHELLS
AND I’M FROZEN IN THIS STATE
I’M TRYING NOT TO CROSS THE LINE
BUT I GUESS IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TIME

IT’S A MATTER OF TIME
‘TIL I CAN FINALLY BREATHE
GO WHERE EVER MY HEART LEADS
GET TO KNOW MYSELF AGAIN
LEARN TO BE MY OWN BEST FRIEND
LIFT THIS WEIGHT UP OFF MY SHOULDERS
AND FINALLY BE FREE

BUT I RUN AND I RUN
JUST TO FIND I’M STANDING STILL
CUZ I’M TRYING TO MOVE
WITHOUT BREAKING ANY SHELLS
AND I’M FROZEN IN THIS STATE
TRYING NOT TO CROSS THE LINE

SO I RUN AND I RUN
TO FIND IM STANDING STILL
I’M TRYING TO MOVE
WITHOUT BREAKING ANY SHELLS
AND I’M FROZEN IN THIS STATE
TRYING NOT TO CROSS THE LINE
BUT I GUESS IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TIME
IT’S JUST MATTER OF TIME
TILL I CROSS THE BORDER LINE
IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TIME

MY OWN HANDS TO HOLD

Written By: HAZE, FRALEY

I WAS ALONE
SITTING ON THE STEPS OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR
YOU WEREN’T HOME
HELL, I’VE BEEN THROUGH THIS TOO MANY TIMES BEFORE
AND WE GO ON AND ON
ROUND AND ROUND
IT’S LIKE WE CAN’T BREAK FREE

YOU’RE BRINGING ME DOWN
NOW YOU’VE GOT ME ON MY KNEES
THE FIRST TIME AROUND
YOU WERE SO GOOD TO ME
BUT NOW I’M OUT HERE IN THE COLD
WITH JUST MY OWN HANDS TO HOLD
BUT WHERE ARE YOU

TIME GOES BY SLOW
MAKING MY WAY THROUGH THE WORDS YOU SAID
AND I DIDN’T KNOW
YOU WERE ONLY PLAYING WITH MY HEAD
BUT STILL WE GO ON AND ON
ROUND AND ROUND
IT’S TIME THAT WE BREAK FREE

YOU’RE BRINGING ME DOWN
NOW YOU’VE GOT ME ON MY KNEES
THE FIRST TIME AROUND
YOU WERE SO GOOD TO ME
BUT NOW I’M OUT HERE IN THE COLD
WITH JUST MY OWN HANDS TO HOLD

YOU BUILT ME UP
YOU MADE ME BELIEVE
THAT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
THAT YOU’D EVER NEED
AND NOW I’M SITTING HERE
AND NOBODY CARES BUT ME

STOP BRINGING ME DOWN
NOW YOU GOT ME ON MY KNEES
THE FIRST TIME AROUND
YOU WERE SO GOOD TO ME
BUT NOW I’M OUT HERE IN THE COLD
WITH JUST MY OWN HANDS TO HOLD
YOU’RE BRINGING ME DOWN
NOW YOU GOT ME ON MY KNEES
THE FIRST TIME AROUND
YOU WERE SO GOOD TO ME
BUT NOW I’M OUT HERE IN THE COLD
WITH JUST MY OWN HANDS TO HOLD

WHERE ARE YOU
OH YOUR BRINGING ME DOWN
JUST MY OWN HANDS TO HOLD
YOU WERE SO GOOD TO ME
STOP BRINGING ME DOWN
STOP BRINGING ME DOWN

NOW I UNDERSTAND

Written By: HAZE, RESWICK, MECKEL

NOW I UNDERSTAND WHO YOU ARE
AND WHY IT HAD TO BE SO HARD
THE BATTLES THAT YOU FOUGHT
WHAT YOU LOST ALONG THE WAY
NOW I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU’VE BEEN
AND WHY IT HURTS TO LET ME IN
I KNOW IT’S ONLY WORDS
BUT I NEEDED TO SAY NOW I UNDERSTAND

SOME WORDS NEVER SHOULD BE SPOKEN
SOME PROMISES NEVER SHOULD BE BROKEN
AND SOME HURTS THE HEART SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO FEEL
AND SOME WOUNDS HAVE TO TAKE SOME TIME TO HEAL

NOW I UNDERSTAND WHO YOU ARE
AND WHY IT HAD TO BE SO HARD
THE BATTLES THAT YOU FOUGHT
WHAT YOU LOST ALONG THE WAY
NOW I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU’VE BEEN
AND WHY IT HURTS TO LET ME IN
I KNOW IT’S ONLY WORDS
BUT I THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW
NOW I UNDERSTAND

SOME THINGS NEED A BIT MORE PATIENCE
SOME THINGS ARE JUST WORTH THE WAITING
AND SOMETIMES YOU GOT TO BE THE ONE WHO BENDS
AND SOMETIMES YOU WILL BE THE ONE WHO MENDS

NOW I UNDERSTAND WHO YOU ARE
AND WHY IT HAD TO BE SO HARD
THE BATTLES THAT YOU FOUGHT
WHAT YOU LOST ALONG THE WAY
NOW I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU’VE BEEN
AND WHY IT HURTS TO LET ME IN
I KNOW IT’S ONLY WORDS
BUT I THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW
NOW I UNDERSTAND
NOW I UNDERSTAND
